Cool new french 08 owner

Hello

I'm in the process of importing to France a very nice 08 Bullitt.

I'm glad to have found your group, which I believe should be very interesting to follow.

best regards

David

Welcome aboard. Please post your impressions once it finally gets there.

Would be very interesting to know what updates had to be done to allow the car to be imported to France.

well it has been loaded on a truck from the dealership last week.
it is on its way to New jersey to be loaded in a container and at some point on a boat.
Crossing take about 12 days.

Then my importer takes it in his custody and does the following:

- pays 10% custom and 20% VAT taxes
- disallow daytime lights in the indicators (front only ?)
- removal/disconnect of sequential turn signal (only 1 turn signal per side)
- add rear red fog light (using existing turn signal I believe) and install corresponding switch near the light switch (left of steering wheel)
- takes it to one of the only 2 official government test center where it is tested for noise/pollution, tyres and wheels checked against manufacturer specs, conformity of front/rear lights, ....
- 3 weeks later he gets the official document that it passes the tests
- he takes that paper to another office which will officially approve the importation of the Bullitt in France (and charge for it)

Finally I can get the Bullitt and register it myself using the above documents

Cost:
Bullitt 16k USD

Final cost to me
30k euros

Duration from buying to driving: at best 3 month, so I should have it hopefully in february 2017

Welcome David! Congrats on your "new" Bullitt. I hope all goes well (and quickly) so that you can be behind the wheel soon.

Ah well, not that difficult if you use a good importer.
it takes about 3 month with a professionnal, but can take a year for an individual trying to do it himself.
(there's also so less than reliable importers, so reputation is important)

I will travel to colorado next month so I'll have the opportunity to visit the dealer who accepted to export the Mustang and thank him in person.
He was not easy to convince as I think he believed it was a scam

Wow...that's a long journey and process, but glad you're on-board for some fun. Definitely a fun car to run and yours might be one of a few outside the continental US. Ride-on!

The boat is due to reach France tonight so I'll probably pay a visit to the importer during the 1st week of January to see the beauty (or the beast ?)
I've ordered replacement quarter louvres from silver horse racing.

Adding clear turn signals from AM and then I'm done.
