My shorty lasted as long as it took for me to put the cover back on one day.

Don't know which is most "popular", but online research told me that a 14" should work correctly in the FM range we listen to. I cut an older stainless steel one to 14" (from late '80s Ford, I think; got it from pick 'yer parts for $3). Works fine, and looks more retro than the modern black ones with the silencing spiral - the older ones were smooth.

Just back from measuring mine. 7 1/2" measured from where it leaves the base. I too had suckered for the "stubby" sold by American Muscle. Of course, it broke right away. So, I drilled out that base, cut a regular antenna that I bought in a u pick yard for a dollar. I just eyeballed the cut...that's why I had to go measure. Then I inserted it into the drilled out base. First I dropped in some short brass bits taken from some speaker wire to insure a good connection, then I used JB weld but put it on the cut antenna above where it would contact the brass because I didn't know if JB weld would hurt the contact. Wiped off the excess JB weld where the antenna emerged from the drilled out base. Let it cure.

Then some rattle can semi gloss black, being sure to mask off the threaded portion.

Bingo...my custom 7 1/2" stubby antenna. Seems to work okay. I don't listen to the radio much since I bought an ipod & put around 2,000 songs on it. I kept the stock antenna should I want to go back to it.

(edit) For the poll I voted 8"...

UPR billet, black. I guess it's a "stubby." It looks as if it is pushed all the way down. I listen to my iPod or Pandora so no need for the antenna.

Hey Paul,

I did have a rather clever come back but never mind.
