Not certain of the reason, but radio reception was about half of a whip style antenna for the embedded wire. Length and thickness was one of the issues. Simple radio wave engineering. GM was looking for a way to eliminate an installation cost. Have the windshield manufacturer install the antenna. Windshield assembleyman simply had to plug it in when installing the windshield and not mess with a bracket or cable or any of the other mess. Ron is right on the money, lots of ignition noise. Also lots of late in life issues with the connection.

Well, my shorty antenna from MRT arrived today, so if I could I would change my vote from stock to 13" or 14" (it's listed as 13.5")

I actually use my radio a fair amount on short drives rather than messing with mp3s, so it will be interesting to see if I notice a reception difference.

I have the 14" one on mine. The stock antennas on the 05-09 Mustangs are way too long. It makes them look like RC cars.

Ever think about a retractable antenna. My old 02 Camaro had a ugly antenna mounted on the rear fender. I replaced iot with a retractable one. Thought about doing what Cam said, fill it up, and install a retract in the rear quarter fender. But its a job I didn't fancy getting involved with.

I'm not sure of the size, I know it ain't the biggest but it makes up for it by how well it works.....
