So, a chapter ends. Thanks for letting us know. Food for thought...a very nice low miles original '08 recently went on Bring a trailer for $22K. This illustrates the slippery slope of modifications. If you must mod, try to do so the car can be easily restored to stock...and keep those old parts.

It hurts. I once had a Porsche 914 race car, purpose built, had $48,000 in it. Put maybe 5 hours on it, sold it for $15,000. Ouch.

Cars are NOT investments...no matter how many smiling salesmen try to tell you they are.

A depreciating asset, as my financial advisor would say.

actually not surprising. we modify our cars and people often admire what has been done. gives the owner a false sense of the value of the car. just because someone thinks you did a good job and likes the car, doesn't mean they would fork up anything close to what you have invested. then we base our price on what we falsely think people will think of the car. disappointment and an empty wallet is the climax.

In 44 years of buying cars, I have yet to hear this statement from any salesperson, smiling or not. This includes the purchase of both the 2001 and 2019 Mustang Bullitts. But then again, I treat car salespeople as nothing more than a clerk taking my order.

When I mod, I do it for myself, never the next owner, knowing full well I'll probably never recoup the costs I put into it. It's also why I never go crazy w/mods- simple, basic bolt-ons, especially w/today's available OE performance.

I'm sure Tiger is glad it's gone. Crikey, that car has been f/s for what, a year+ now?

only investment I see for the car salesman to say the car is an investment, is in the car salesman's portfolio or the dealerships....certainly no one else's.

Not saying I'll never mod...but it'll probably be only upgrades as things need replacing. At 30,000 miles now, so thinking of shocks replacements. Will probably go Koni or Bilstein. But maybe not...last weeks freeway drive had the car tracking beautifully straight, everything seemed fine. So, "if it ain't broke..."

Poor Tiger...he modded so much that the car needed someone who had the exact same taste as he. That person was hard to find.
