Thump Thump Thump

OK, did the GT500 LCA swap last Wednesday. And I still have the thumping noise from the front end. Bad struts too? 2008 unit that has 75K on it and all stock on the shocks and struts. Ideas?

can you post up a video of the sound.

...and more info as to when you hear it....turning the steering wheel when the car is not in motion, smooth road vs bumps or rough road, turning while in motion, yada yada.

Question

Ya, could be anything, sway bar end links, bushings, pooched shock/s, bad upper strut mounts, even loose top shock nuts????

I'll try and get a video of the sound. This is the thumping/clunking noise you get with bad ball joints when you hit a bump of some kind in the front end. Heading to the shop soon.....

Only happens when you're driving. Wheels can be pointed straight ahead and you hit a bump you get the clunking sound. Sitting still and turning the wheels from side to side, it does not clunk, suspension has to be in motion. Smooth roads, no noise, bumpy roads, clunking. No noise when turning in motion unless you hit a bump or a pot hole.

You may be on to something...keep us posted what the shop says. Ball joints do seem to go quickly in the s197's...no experience on my part, just net reading.

from that description, guessing.....75K on the control arms....first would be struts, probably gone by now, strut bearing/mount...good possibility, ball joints especially depending on where the previous car was driven....also good candidates. I would replace all that stuff for sure. it's not only 75k...its now 10 years old.

Gonna go with the struts, shocks and any mounting hardware related. As I said in the first post, I upgraded to the front Ford Racing LCA's (rear also), and still have the clunking.
