'08 Driveshaft joint

I have a squeaking/ squealing noise from what I now believe to be the constant velocity joint at the back of the driveshaft where it mounts to the diff.

The technicians at my work removed the back cover off the joint and the grease had gone a dirty white colour. They cleaned it out and replaced with new grease. Noise is still there sadly. It did, and now still does go after a mile or so but there's obviously a problem.

My question is: I assume that it just needs a regular grease in this joint or is there a specific one for the job?

If it's regular grease then I suspect the joint has gone past the point of no return and it may as well be replaced.

A good quality synthetic grease works well. Usually they dry out and then get noisy.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Forgot that I had posted on here! So here's what I did. I sourced a new CV joint and had it fitted to the driveshaft. No joy! The noise was still there but further investigation showed that it wasn't far away. There is a plastic dust cover between the flange and differential casing. For whatever reason, if gently pressed with a screwdriver (with the car being driven whilst on the two post ramp) the noise went away. An application of grease shut it up. Quite why it is doing this I don't know.
