Question VIN numbers

OK, I just heard from a new member today that he checked his VIN number on his 01 Bullitt as his sticker was illegible. It came back as a Bullitt. I had heard this from a couple of other members also. I begged to differ but now I would like to know the true story. Can someone find out?

Now in the earlier days, If you ran the VIN, it came back as a GT, not a Bullitt.

Has anyone heard if Ford changed the data base on VIN numbers identifying if a GT Mustang is a Bullitt or not now?

This is just a "shot in the dark". At one time, you could get an online copy of the original window sticker. If that is available, then you could check the window sticker to see if it included the Bullitt Option.

Yes, but by searching the VIN #, it did not show it was a specific "Bullitt" GT by using the VIN. Just that it was a "GT Mustang."

So, so sorry to hear about your B donald. What is the specific ID# off the driver's side shock tower sticker so I can mark it "gone." Again, sorry for your and our loss.

Back in the dark ages when I bought my Bullitt and sent the info to the insurance company they wanted to see and photograph the car. When they ran the VIN it came back GT/Bullitt. Not just one or the other, but both. Once they saw and photographed the car, they advised me that Ford put both models under one VIN build. The result was that I have a Bullitt, and it's insured at GT pricing, not a higher rated performance car like the Mach 1, or even the Cobra. Both of those cars suffer a 10% higher cost on insuring. Not a significant charge, but it's there just the same. Fast forward to now and I realize how that 10% adds up, and I would have paid an extra 140%, or the equivalent of 1.4 years worth of insurance. That's a lot of gas!

My name is David J. Midgley. But you doesn't have to call me that. You can call me David. Or you can call me David J. Or you can call me David Midgley. But you doesn't have to call me David J. Midgley....

Thumbs down

In 2001 when I went to insure #344 the VIN came back as GT, no Bullitt mentioned at all. Why are some people saying that their's come back with GT/Bullitt and some are not?

Confirming: VINs on 2001 Bullitts do not identify the car as a Bullitt.

I recall 2001 Mustang searches coming back as GT/Bullitt.

So salesmen list the car as a bullitt when clearly it is not.

The VIN is useless in Identifying a Bullitt. Ya gotta see the car.
