I suspect that the prices of the new cars will continue to fall as the effects of the contravirus grows.

I don't doubt that car sale are down. Good for the consumer, not so much for the salesperson.

Yes, we have seen this before. I bought my Shelby GT500 in 2011 when the price of gasoline was $4.09/gallon in Western PA. I got a really good price on it...………
I'm old enough to see the prices of cars fall during any disaster.
Unfortunately, your trade in usually takes a bath!
I saw a new 2019 yesterday on the net.....MSRP $51880...……..Sale price $46300.
Should I advertise my 2009...……...LOL!

There's a few f/s here in the central/southern section of FL that are in the very low $40's for asking prices. One private seller on autotrader has his listed @ $40k and it's loaded w/every option other than recaro's, w/less than 2k on the odo- that's a steal

So I've continued to watch the 2 B's f/s in my area, the privately sold one on autotrader, the other at the dealership. Both cars are fully decked out, sans Recaros, nearly identical mileage (1500 +/-).

The privately sold one has dropped his asking price to mid $38's- yes, you heard me correctly. The guy contacts me via email 2 days back and says, "Make me an offer." Bastages... Still can't- timing is very bad between the market and corona virus issue, not to mention, I'd have to sell the GT500 privately too. Not gonna happen now.

The stealership called me yday, wanted me to bring the GT500 down for appraisal. I said, "No" but offered them full details. They offered me $15g's as trade-in and I, of course, chuckled in response. A ridiculously lowball effort on their behalf I told them they should be embarrassed.

These folks are trying my patience.

A friend of mime has a 2014 Corvette with 1000 miles on it. It has some nice options. He tried to trade it on a left over 2019 Corvette....
He was offered under $30K for it...…….
He's still licking his wounds!

Tales all illustrating that, salesman's hype to the contrary, cars are not "investments"...but a rapidly depreciating asset.

And I guess that's my problem. Mine's a nice driver and all, but not really a lot of fun. I know deep down I'd feel pretty much the same about a new one.

You know you're a pool player when...

Your cues and case are more valuable than your car. I'm getting close to being there.

Also, tucked away safely in my closet is an old cue I bought for $125 in the early 70's. Now the highly sought after collectable that my Bullitt will never be. Built for the slower cloth used then, it has a hit that is terrible today, but that has no bearing on it's collectability. (edit) Here's an old thread on a pool site I visit, where I posted a pic of my cue.

My point of the cue tale...there is no way in hell's half acre to predict what will or will not be a future collectable. I was into playing in local bar tournaments when I bought it. Almost didn't, but did as a favor to friend who begged me to buy because he really wanted one and was able to get a wholesale deal if he ordered two. Back then $125 was a LOT for a pool cue. Shortly after it arrived, I got busy with running a biz, raising a child, ect. Cue went into the closet, thinking I might want to play again in the future. Never really gave it much thought. Fast forward to retirement, thought I might enjoy banging balls again. First time I took it to a real pool hall I learned I'd better buy something less attention grabbing to play with.

I'm thinking a Bullitt Mustang won't be a collectable based on how little even nice '01's and '08-09's are worth today. I'd say give it another 10-12 years on the '01's to really be sure though.

Meanwhile...buy what you like and enjoy it. Life's short...

Exactly...……
Everything has value once you sell it!
As you get older your attitude changes on many things...…….
Ownership is valued by many people. My next-door neighbor had a 57 Chevy Bel Air 2dr Hard Top in his garage. It sat there for at least 30 years...……….and it's still there. His pride is the fact he has a Bel Air...……that's his thing.

BTW...……………...FORD has 0% and 84 months on new MUSTANGS...……….except BULLITT and GT350!!! LOL!

Finance a car for 7 years??? IMHO, if you have to finance a car for that long, you probably cannot afford it.

Either way, make sure you have warranty that will extend the whole period of the finance. It is terrible when you get 5 years in and need a very major repair. You don't have the funds to fix the car, you can't sell it because it is broken and you still have to make the payments.

Another suggestion that I have used successfully in the past. You DON'T have to buy the warranty at the dealer where you buy the vehicle. As long as you purchase it before the factory warranty expires. Every dealer prices the warranty different but, as long as it is the extended factory warranty, they are the same. We saved over a $1,000 on wife's warranty by shopping around. Just make sure it is the SAME package with the SAME deductible. Call around the dealership and ask the finance person to quote a price. We ended up purchasing the warranty at a dealership on the other side of the state. Ford warranty so can be serviced by any FORD service department.
