Well guys, I grabbed a couple screen shots from Bullitt: Steve McQueen's Commitment to Reality on the second disc of the DVD, and I gotta say, after looking at these pics, there's little doubt in my mind that Chad's car is accurate.

Exactly, there's a distinct line of demarcation between the green color of the trunk lid, and the black of the panel; much more than you'd expect from a green panel that's been sprayed with dulling spray. I'm saying that panel's just plain black, exactly like Chad's car.

I think the confusion lies in that there's some green inside the chrome surround, making it look like the black area is just shadow. I was assuming that the whole area would be blacked out. I hadn't considered that there may still be some green as in Chad's car.

Hey Mike,

Did he happen to mention why he chose not to put the side mirrors on?

Never mind, looked at the other pics and saw the driver's mirror.
Looks green though, Surprised they didn't put a chrome one on to match the original.

Logo of the car's fabricator

The cap is available. I called to see if I could modify it to replace our fugly
one but there is a bow along the back to match the 68 panel.

How would I keep it from chipping the chrome?

Or are you talking about modding the panel?

the mans way of course! a few layers of duct tape. wrap it exactly to the edge of your cut. but you need to match the contour of your trunk. its not flat. question 2...do not cut the trunk. cut the cap.

I've cut through painted metal using that method but never chrome.

Don't know if I've got the fabricating skills for that one.

Guess I'll have to turn in the man card.

I think one of the cars had the black panel and the other didnt. The one leaving the diner was flat green the one for the highway shots appears to be black. Just my observation on the subject.
