December 7, 1941

Seventy-eight years ago, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese forces, leaving over 3,400 casualties and pushing the U.S. to join the Allies in World War II.

Japan launched the surprise attack with airplanes and submarines on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor.

More than 2,400 Americans were killed and over 1,000 were wounded during the bombings. More than 300 aircraft and 19 Navy ships, including eight battleships, were damaged or destroyed.

The next day the U.S. declared war against Japan. When asking Congress for a Declaration of War, President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously called the attack "a date which will live in infamy."

On Dec. 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. The U.S. in turn declared war on the Axis Powers, joining the Allies in World War II.

"We" never will, but I'm concerned that the younger generation(s) in our beautiful land have little interest in our history, and what they have "learned" has largely been rewritten by elitist educators.

Sad, when so many generations have passed, that history is ignored and forgotten by the younger ones. Young people today can't even identify pictures of John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower --- no one! It's pitiful, just pitiful. Then, after all the hard lessons of how Communism/Socialism does not work, what do they want? Socialism! I guess it's this "forgetting" that leads to "history repeating itself."

This thread was meant to be a solemn remembrance of a tragic event in our country's history.
It was not meant to be a trigger for criticism.

Trust me, no one here is casting aspersions on the brave young men and women who gave their all to defeat tyranny and preserve freedom. They are the Greatest Generation for a reason. Try to relax. Go have an eggnog and think happy thoughts. All is well.

Don't patronize me, Jimbob.

I can't believe you misunderstood my objection.

Instead of posts remembering and commemorating our fallen in a time of national tragedy, there were instead posts of criticism.
....young people uneducated and wanting socialism...
.....history rewritten by elitist educators...

It seems that people these days are way too quick to find fault in others, and think that derogatory observations such as those are an acceptable substitute for thoughtful discourse.
