Help, B won't start!

The 01 B has been in storage all winter and we are getting it out for driving today. It won't start. The battery is charged and good. Bill says he probably has to get some spray and spray it into the "carburator."

Any other ideas? I don't have time to do searches at the moment.

Does it crank over? Could be the fuel pump has failed.
All you need to make an engine run is "fuel and fire," in other words the fuel has to get to the engine and a spark has to ignite the fuel.
Before you do anything else, check the battery connections. If they are dirty or caked with white stuff, mix some baking soda with water and clean them, rinse with clean water and make sure terminals are tight and intact. Good luck!

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Thanks Pat. Cables are clean. It cranks but won't start. Terminals are all great. It is something else. Pushed the button in the trunk for the fuel pump and it didn't help.

Thanks Chris and Tim. We will replace the fuel filter and if that isn't it we will have it towed to our favorite shop and have him see if it is the fuel pump.

I have been reading about fuel pumps, sensors, filters on here from the past. I guess we will check the fuel filter and if that's not it, we will have her towed to our service guy and have him check the fuel pump and/or the crank sensor. Bill has no mechanical skills whatsoever.

Hi Vicki,

I can almost guarantee it is the fuel pump, the exact same thing happened with dhg1994.
I replaced the fuel filter first to no avail ( deep down I knew that wasn't the answer as it was only a couple years old ) ford master mechanic buddy came over to help me, tank was under 1/4 full so that was good. dropped the tank, replaced the fuel filter AND very importantly he said the fuel neck grommett on the tank. it goes on the tank and the fuel filler pipe goes into the grommett.....

Won't Start!

I had the same issue with 2001 #00159. I first noticed a slight miss at high RPM then no start!! I had my mechanic do a pressure test as I cranked the motor.....no fuel! So about $400 later the "B" ran like a champ....I believe this is a very common problem of the 2001 Bullitt.

Hope you get it fixed soon!

Actually, Bills suggestion has some diagnostic merit. Spray starter fluid into the throttle body. If the car runs, then dies, it's telling you it's not getting fuel.
