VIN #'s Decoded

Does anyone know what the 10th digit and the last 5 digits represent in the new Bullitt VIN?

Thanks. I found in another article that Ford skips the "I" in the alphabet and is the reason my VIN and all 2019's have a "K" in the 10th character/year of the vehicle.

Was thinking the letters went like this by model year -

2010 - A
2011 - B
2012 - C
2013 - D
2014 - E
2015 - G
2016 - H
2017 - I
2018 - J
2019 - K

Actually:

2010 - A
2011 - B
2012 - C
2013 - D
2014 - E
2015 - F
2016 - G
2017 - H
2018 - J
2019 - K

The letter 'I' is not used, nor is the letter 'O', the number '0' or the letter 'Q'.

Yes you are correct. Before understanding the missing I, thought the K in my VIN was a dealer screwed up! Also, are the last 5 numbers, SEQUENTIAL UNIT NUMBER, the build number of my Bullitt?

bullit4404 06-18-2018 11:52 AM

Yes. That will be your production number. eg 200480 would be car #480 sequentially.

No, like the current 2016+ GT350s, it will be very rare if the last four digits of the VIN matches the car's serial number. Apparently matching the VINs & Serial Numbers was only done for the 2015 GT350s. I don't know if Ford committed to doing this for the Bullitts.

It is also very rare to have sequential VINs to be built right after each other. The VINs are assigned very early in the production process and actual vehicle builds are assigned, among other things, based on line balance and projected hourly rates of a vehicle's models. So the actual vehicle production will have non-sequential VINs going down the assembly line; this is true for any vehicle production line. A numerically higher VIN, in a lot of cases, could be built before a numerically lower VIN.

I misunderstood the question. It is unlikely as you say, VIN will match Bullit car number. Often cars are built based on options, colour, time to build etc. My bad. What I meant was car #200480 would be 480 out of the total production.

Bullitt964 06-18-2018 03:12 PM

So it sounds like there is no way to find out your car's serial number relative to production builds? The last 5 numbers on the VIN is just a VIN serial number, assigned presumably sequentially, when orders were assigned VINs.

Cannot comment on the 2019 but in the case of the 2008, there did not seem to be a real "pattern". My Bullitt is #852 and VIN number ends with 161444. I found VIN number 161443 somewhere on the internet and it was a Bullitt numbered in the 900s.

I need to go back to school to learn my alphabet :-)

Car manufacturers tend to not use 1, I, O, 0 or Q because of the possibility of confusing them at the DMV? :crying:

I'm pretty sure VIN and the chassis number will match up. This is why there's a separate VIN sequence for Bullitt. Other 2019s will be mixed in, but they should go down in order from what I've gathered. I'll confirm in a couple weeks when I receive my car.

Somewhere on Mustang6g a few weeks back someone confirmed the Bullitts will have specific VINs that are much "later" than a standard VIN. Seems like it started with x50001 or something like that. All Bullitts would be put in that sequence with no interruptions from other Mustangs and vice versa
