Sorry-never going to happen. Those engines use up to much gas and will lower Ford's fleet gas mileage-sorry---this is also why the Cobra production run is so short-May to August for the blown cars with 3.55 rearends--according to Art Hyde they will probably end up being classified as gas guzzlers so Ford is going to have to seriously limit the number produced - which says 'hello' to SVT dealer rip off pricing.
Last column I saw from Art Hyde said that the Cobra was still up in the air over the gas issue- it will be that close. I do not believe that the first gear or two are that much different on the 6 speed so the 3.55 apparently does hurt????. Saleen will put a 3.55 in their normally asperated car as a factory option but not on the SC car for gas comsumption reasons so it makes sense that SVT is having the same issues... But it could also be Ford disinformation--don't trust it until I see it.
If my motor ever "retires"; a 351W crate engine will definately be in the planes. You can get close to 400 hp w/o blowers, turbo's or other expensive add-ons.
If you select the right parts combo ,you can get 430-450 HP,at the flywheel, from a 9 to 1 compression 351W. That is what I have reached so far, with a carb setup and mild 224/230 degree hyd. roller cam. It took a lot of carefull tuning.
I'd think the deep skirt (you can read that as FE if you like) design is probably a stronger block for all big HP applications. Anything the 351s could do the big blocks could do better.
