I remeber in a past post someone was looking for wider tires/wheels for the rears but did not really want to go with 18's for loss of ride quality. I noticed in April issue of MM&FF an ad for Performance Wheel Outlet, they offer a replica wheel in 17x9 for $184.00 ea. That is a good price and would allow more meat in the rears. I have been reading about spacers for the rear wheels and I like the looks but I figure I am going to spend the extra money and get looks and more traction. I am presently contacting the company to ensure that our OEM center caps will fit in the replica wheels.

don't bother. I called discount tire direct and they said that 275/40/17 nitto 555r tres will fit fine. save the money on rims for somthing else. These tires stick like mad and we can use the stock rims safely.

All though that tire will fit the 8 inch wide Bullitt wheel, the 9 inch wide wheel will get the full tread width of the tire flat on the pavement. I run 275-60-15 BFG DRs,on a 8 inch wide wheel,on my 85 LX,and it could use a wider wheel. The tread tends to crown more on the 8 inch.

once again, i recommend visiting Tire Rack's website
even if you do NOT buy anything from them they have an incredible array of charts showing exact specifications and dimensions of EVERY tire they carry and recommended range of wheel widths for every tire they carry

I HAVE CALLED PERFORMANCE WHEEL OUTLET AND THE CAP WILL FIT BUT MAY PROTRUDE ABOUT A 1/8 OF A INCH AND ALSO THE COLOR IS THE SILVER NOT THE CHARCOAL COLOR SO U WOULD HAVE OT BUY 4 RIMS FROM HIM SO THEY ALL MATCH OR YOU WOULD HAVE THEM PAINTED OR POWERCOATED TO MATCH.

Thanks CR01 for checking that out for us, I just haven't got around to calling them yet. I still like the idea of 17x9's so am still searching for some that will match up well with the stock rims, I just want to replace the rears.
