My practice with a new engine is to change oil after the first 500 miles. This helps to cleanse all the prelubes used during assembly as well as helping to insure any metal shavings are flushed. After that you can go the 3000 routine.

I did my first on this car at 650 miles, with the recommended dinosaur 5W-20 and filter from Walmart...total to do it myself was $12....A bargain for the peace of mind it gives you! After another change at 1,500 and 3,000 I'll switch to Mobil 1 synthetic (5W30).

Dennis, Any reason for waiting till 3000 miles to switch to Mobil1? All new Corvettes come from the factory with Mobil1. BlackBullitt#1768

Things may have changed, but when syn first came out the industry recommended not to use until after break in because the oil was so slick that the rings wouldn't seat
