Does anyone know what main caps the Bullitt has? Was reading on the Cobra and it stated that it had 6 bolt main caps that were cross bolted. I am assuming that this is for the extra HP and torque and the necessity to beaf up the lower end. Seems like the Bullitt should also have a beefier bottom end.

Just curious, as I am not going off on the deep end and modify it. Like it just like it is.

Your Bullitt does have cross bolted main bearing caps. This is a return to a design used on special high performance FE block v-8 engines. These engines had skirted blocks as our do.Ford had no problems keeping up with the pack,so to speak in the late 50's and early 60's,but the engines where experiencing failures in the bottom end due to the crank walking and flexing during sustained high rpm use. They drilled and tapped the side of the block and the main bearing caps. This corrected the problem. While designing the modular motor the same design was used because of the motors ability to rev and it is a high specificic output engine, high horspower to litre.Approx 4 more horsepower per litre than the LS1.I have on my lot right now a Lincoln Town Car with 198,000 that still runs like new, they are indeed a very durable motor.

It is a bit misleading. The 2V modular engine are "4 bolt" blocks, but the cross drilled bolts are for locating the caps and don't add a high level of additional strength. The 4V (Cobra) blocks are referred to as "6 bolt" because they have 4 real bolts in the bottom of the caps plus the two cross-bolted locating bolts. Both engines are very durable but the 4V blocks are spec'd to run upwards of 8,000 rpm.

The 4V blocks (and the '02 Explorer blocks which will interchange) are also aluminum and provide a nice weight savings.
