I love how people say only 390 when the z06 has over for and the s-281Extreem has 425. If I wanted to pay 65G's for a 281E thats one thing but why pay 65 when I can do it my self for a lot cheaper

I am somewhat disappointed. While everyone else is doing some good engineering to boost HP,without supercharging,Ford cops out,and bolts one on. I mean,Chevy is using some real trick parts on the newest Z-06,and the imports, and Chevy, are using variable cam timing to get more top end power and keep the low end. Anyone can bolt on a supercharger! Whatever happened to good old engineering. I mean in late 1968,when the top engine was either a 390 or all out 427,they came out with the CJ 428,the best STREETABLE performance engine Ford ever built!

I agree 100% 408!
Any of us can strap on a SC...and I don't really care if it's warrantied or not. They're claiming such a mild HP increase that I think it's only warrantied for very mild boost anyway.
I really wish they'd gone to a wild NA engine with many many cubes.
I'll stay with my normally aspirated Bullitt.

I will be happy if they build it. Yeah, it would be great if they could make 390 N/A, but what the hell, better than nothing  The Lightning has been pretty successful, add a pulley and a few other things and watch the power go up. People with Grand Nationals don't seem to mind needing boost to compete.

It's too bad they didn't decide to use a centrifugal rather than a Roots type though.

If they keep the IRS there may still be an issue with putting all the power to the pavement???? Hopefully FOMOCO can figure this out since they are not producing the 2002 Cobra.

Well, considering all the problems SVT had with the Lightning's intercooler, I don't think it's any surprise Ford would keep a factory supercharger at low boost. I've heard of several Lightning owners taking the truck in 3 or more times for warranty work to the supercharger & engine.

I know this isn't a direct comparison, but how does Maserati pull 385 HP,333 Ft.Lbs of torque from 259 Cubes, without any supercharging? It also has DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. Still meets all emissions. This is the USA....It can be done. The real solution is more engine displacement for Ford, but that would require a new block to do it right, and the days of bigger displacement engines from Ford for the Stang are over,I feel.

I would guess that the '03 Cobra will accelerate no faster than the "R". Also, the "governor" for 155 because of lift issues is BS. They don't want a lot of PO'd "R" owners raising hades that their $55,000 car is slower than a $35,000 one from the same manuf. I know it's not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison because the "R" is basically a factory race car.

I will be tempted to pick one up if it turns out to be all as advertised. An SC'd stang with a factory warranty and Vette level power for $35K......very nice.
