Greetings,

On eBay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1807045395&r=0&t=0 is listed a 2003 Mustang Cobra. The car is noted to be expected for delivery in May, 2002 and have a sticker price of approximately $36-37,000. Finally, it is listed as having 390 horsepower. Is the latter number accurate?

390 is Ford's rating. They got sued on the 99 Cobra when the car underdelivered. The 2001 Cobras were also rated at 320 like the 99's but dynos have pegged them at close to 330 once broken it. The blower being used is good for 80-100 hp at 6 psi. You do the math-a realistic 330 plus 80-100 is 410-430. Ford is intentionally understating HP or for fuel mileage concerns (they are concerned the car may hit gas guzzler limits with the 3.55 rear end) they may be way undertuning. Without stress this engine it will either be running 400plus from the factory or be at those numbers with a simple chip reprogram.
