I have read the threads and have the same issue for the intermittent 2nd to 3rd gear grind under normal driving or getting locked out of third at high rpm and even produced the TSB to two dealers, but they say they can't reproduce hence will not repair.

Has anyone near the Toronto area experienced this and had it repaired?

I'll be the first to admit I have missed 3rd gear shifts, this is my third mustang, had Z28 and Trans am, and I'll take the missed shift on the chin but this to me certainly appears to be a trans issue.

Finally time to close this thread..........Talked with the service manager and he said "you have to shift these trans hard and fast" I said I don't have a problem with that but the trans grinds so I take it easy and of course this is under normal shifting. I Let him drive and told him to "give her" he shifted and my prayers were answered ggrrrrind. He looked in disbelief and tried it again, and again and again yes ggrrrind. Parts are being ordered.

What dealership did you go to. I noticed I am getting the grind. I ususally go to Summit in Etobicoke but live in Richmond Hill. If you have a dealership that has looked after you let me know how it went. Thanks.

Hello I went into Twin Hills Ford (Richmond Hill) sometime back about your very problem. The service manager (quite helpful) did locate the TSB. They told me they would fix the car (under warranty) but they wanted to check it over first. My car only grinds on 2nd to third shifts when cold. I therefore did not feel it was worth the fix. I just drive it easy when cold out and double clutch for the first 5 minutes then everything seems fine. Adpel.

Twin Hills is a pretty good dealership, I know the sales manager there.

It's apparently a tight (close tolerance) transmission. I deal with mine as is, it grinds only when it has royal purple fluid in it. That was what was in the thing when I bought it used. The dealer dumped the Royal Purple. Refilled with the Motorcraft branded fluid, and since then there has been no issue. Others report just the opposite.

English Bob, a long time member, who appears on this site from time to time totally rebuilt his with brass bushings and forks. The factory build has nylon...I think his is probably louder, but according to him it works fine if not great. There is an issue, it will make itself known to you real well further down the road when it implodes.
