New rear axle gear coming next week. Which ratio do you recommend, 3.73 or 4.10?

The 01 Bullitt is my daily commuter vehicle so am leaning towards the 3.73 but the shop said I would not feel that much of a difference vs. stock.

What are you trying to achieve?

My 2008 GT500 has 3.31/1 gears and an extra 185 horsepower. My 2008 Bullitt has 3.73/1 gears and you can really tell the difference...

What gear ratio do you have now? If it is 3.55's, 3.73's aren’t too much of a jump and is not probably worth the time money and effort. If you have 3.31's that would be a noticeable difference.

In general, if it is your daily driver and in light of $4 per gallon gas, and you are not at the drag strip every weekend I would suggest 3.73s...

410's are for track, 3.73's are for street......

Ford even realized this and put 3.73's in the 08.

The '08 has 3.73 but keep in mind the tires are 27.1" diameter instead of 25.7" for the '01. The RPM at 70 mph with 3.73 gears for the '01 is 2287. The RPM for the '08 at 70 with stock 3.73 gears is 2168. 3.90 would be 2268 for the '08.

4.10 in the '01 would be 2513 RPM. 4:30 in the '08 would be 2500 RPM. Hmmmmmmmmm!

4.10's are the only way to go on a N/A car. I went throught the same debate and got the 4.10's and love them. The lack of low end power in the 4.6 really calls for the 4.10's, its no 302 which was perfect with 3.73's. I still get 23-24 on the highway and can run in 5th gear at 30mph. Don't fear the gear!!!

It's not the gear but how much you use the gear. Keep your foot out the pedal and the mileage should change none to very little.

You will loose 1st gear with the 4:10 gears and have to pretty much start out in 2nd most of the time.If you dont want to loose 1st just get the 3:73 gears,they are much more user friendly and if you decide to get a blower down the road they are the best gears for a supercharger.

Yea, I had a finger problem there......similar to when I miss 3rd! Anyway, I have edited my post to read 3.73's as it should have been.

They say just to go 4.10s all the way because it won't affect gas much, but everybody else recommends what I just stated above.

Honestly, I didn't lose any noticeable mileage when I switched to 4.10s, and I'm not easy on the car either.

From everything i have heard and read if you are going to be doing A LOT of highway commuting then stick with the 3.73's. Otherwise, like they all say, "dont fear the gear!"

Exactly. I never start off in second gear.

I think I've heard a grand total of one person who wished they had gone with 3.73's after putting 4.10's in the car. I can't count the times I heard someone with 3.73's say they wish they had just gotten 4.10's. I've had 4.10's in my car for almost six years. I have never regretted installing them.

While I won't say there is only a small difference between 3.27's and 3.73's, I will say there is a lot of difference between 3.27's and 4.10's.

I'm one of those '01 owners that got 3.73's and am disappointed with 'em. Mines not a daily driver but if it were, and going by what others are saying about mileage differences, I'd absolutely go with the 4.10's. 3.73's just don't give me the thrill I want.

When i started my research into the rear gear i wanted i got the gear chart which is on file here...i saw the rpm's with the stock gear(327)...with 355 and the 373...ok....i do not race my car....i looked at mph at 70 for each gear...then i talked to some guys in the DFW...most had 373 gears an were very pleased with them..so i went with the 373 gears...they pack a lot of punch in my car...i am very pleased with them...i filled up in Lufkin....ran from 80 to 100 mph on the way home....my results were 251.9 miles on 10.3 gals of gas....so yeah...i'm pleased:lol:

In the old days...if i was racing....i would have gone with 488 gears.

What was the difference from stock with 3.73's? I am thinking about getting them, but the Bullitt is my daily driver in the summer monthes!

Thanks, and if it helps, I am superchargered too! I didn't notice a big difference when I got the supercharger installed either, gas mileage wise. I wanna also do alky too!
