For what ever reason I really feel llike this will work. It may not overcome all obsticles and make Ford #1, but if they are smart about it, and put in a motor with about 300hp things could look up.

I mentioned this in another post, but name recognition is going to be the key to Ford coming out of this alive. I think Ford may be recognizing that a name is VERY imortant. This move has the potential to put Ford back in the Big 3.

Now they need to change the name of the Focus to ESCORT, and end the Fusion, and cut the fat out of the SUV/Truck line.

Think so? The Fusion sells like free hotcakes on a saturday morning. Keep the Fusion=Save the company. Salvage the 500 in any name form=help save the company. Lots of mark up in the Fusion as it's a highly modified Mazda 6 and was realatively cheap to develop.

Are you really serious about a 300 HP motor in a Taurus?

I don't think that is gonna happen.

(But I have to check with my sources)

The 2008 500 or Taurus will have this:

The Five Hundred's 3.5-liter Duratec V-6 now delivers an estimated 260 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque. It also benefits from the same smooth shifting, six-speed automatic transmission and the same available all-wheel-drive system as the new Ford Edge.

My sources (not at Ford) say this is a wise move.

Not so fast. Remember, it's only a 3.5L. And the old sylogism is that "There is no replacement for displacement." And that's a fact Jack! 4.6 > 3.5L any day of the week.

My thoughts exactly. Taurus/500 Curb Weight is only 3649 lbs. Less thn the new stang. They put that V6 in the 08 stang they would really be selling! Couple of mods and you could be over 300HP. MRT's twin Turbo V-6 puts down 350 RWHP. Better start that engine project Larry!!

If you want a runner try the Fusion or the Milan with the same 3.5, they are putting in the 500/Traus, the Milan and Fuison is much lighter car..... My wifes 3.0 quad valve engine 6speed auto 06 Milan has walked away from my stock 93 gt convertible and the CVPI.... I would love to see a 3.5 in it....

The MPG will also be better

The 500 is a very good car that has suffered from boring, unimagineative styling at a time when Chrysler has introduced cars of poorer quality but more stylish (300 and Charger). People went for style (too bad). Hopefully, the name change to Taurus will help. Thankfully, the Fusion has been a huge success for Ford.

It's a good idea...just hope it holds its value better than my 1991 Taurus SHO that I bought new. Its a great car 220hp (more than the Mustang GT that year), DOHC, 5-speed, decent handling, very utilitarian (two young kids at the time), etc. I bought it partially because they were selling for $7500 under sticker. It has 90k on it and is in 9 (out of 10) codition. Its worth about $1500 on a good day....oh well, guess I'll keep it. Hope the Bullit fares better (I'm sure it will).
Sorry for the rambling,
Bruce
