I keep hearing of people going in for a 5000 mile checkup. What is it for? Is it necessary? Sorry but this is my first new car and my dealer is an hour away.

Warranty issues can come into play if you can't provide documentation that you've had the car serviced at the intervals outlined in the owner's manual.

You can either do it yourself and save all the receipts or take it to Wal-Mart Lube Express for example. Just be sure a Ford approved filter and oil are used.

Well, i am not so sure about wal-mart. I took it there for my first oil change and requested motorcraft oil and filter. That is what they put into it, but on the receipt they forgot to put in mileage, and the receipt says it was valvoline. I watched them put it in, so the car got good service, but poor documentation.
