The base of it (that screws onto the base on the car) is made of plastic and at first I thought it was a cheaper version of the previous 16" (or so) one that I had before that had a metal base.
But I really like it better now as the reason why I bought it was because the black paint on the one I had was getting scratched up from car washes taking off and on. I actually had to paint it a couple of times and sand the rust off of it.
The base on the car is plastic, so, it matches up pretty well.
Reception? Don't know. Tried it in town with no problems, but I never listen to the radio anyway.
Heck, I never listen to the CD either.....like to listen to the exhaust too much!
I have the 8" antenna and it works pretty well. The reception within town is the same, but as you drive out of town it loses the signal a little earlier than the stock antenna. I wouldn't go back to the stock, the 8" works fine and looks a lot better. My sig has a picture with the stock antenna - I don't think I have a picture with the short one yet.
