I'm sure he wore long pants, with socks and shoes made for racing, which would protect him for the accidental touching of those pipes.
Kinda like the pipes on my Harley, I've never burned my leg on them in the 8+ years I've had it. The jeans and boots really help. :wink:

I had to move my bike last week while wearing shorts and I quickly remembered why I don't wear shorts when I'm rididng. yeeeeoouuucchhhhhhhhh~!!!!!!!
