Found a local place that can get us a brand new compressor, dryer and tube for $249! That's about half of everybody else.

Question: I could easily do this repair on my own except I don't know how to "drain" the a/c system. I've got the stuff to recharge it so that is no big deal. Anyone know how to evacuate the freon (or whatever it's called these days)?

Yup, the old days of simply cracking a hose connection are long gone. That'll really get someone in trouble these days...

BUT, if it "had a leak" and there's no pressure left in the system because of that.........
