Tag Heuer has re-issued the Monaco watch that Steve McQueen wore. How cool would it be to drive up to a show or event in a Bullitt wearing one of these??  You can check it out here: http://www.tagheuer.com/share/main.cfm?sect=whatsnew

Doesn't say how much it is. It sure is a sharp looking watch. If it were $500 or under i would probly pick it up because i need a new watch anyway, mine just died.

Hey, not a bad idea bullittbro1! I wouldn't mine having the watch. How cool would that be driving the Bullitt with McQueen's watch!! All we would need then is a blue turtleneck and all is set!

What Bullitthead (s) were the ones that dressed like McQueen when they went down to the dealers to pick up their Bullitts? And had the sound track ready to put in the changer? LOL  That would have been something to see--that there!

Dan that watch wouldn't be good for you, because you'd have to take it off when you drove the other car.

You're right Chalmers. I would have to take off the blue turtleneck every time as well!

I just called Bailey, Banks and Biddle in D.C. and they said that they should be receiving their first shipment of the Mcqueen watch next week. He did not have any info re: its price, but from seeing the link that Barnaby gave, i am guesing that it will be around $1500. I could get a stainless steel Rolex for that. I think i will go for the Rolex.

$1500??? Ouch... That is a lot of Bullitt parts. I paid around $500 for my Swiss Army Watch and thougth that was nuts<G>.

Think I will hold off on this one, but it's still KEWL to look at it.

Thanks for the link.

I found out about these a long time ago and have my name on one, but I do not know if I really will buy it at this point or not. Just so you know, its a 2500 dollar list price watch, but most dealers do 10 to 15 off Tags. I have never spent that much on something like a watch and I am not too sure I really want to...but I am a huge fan of Le Mans, Grand Prix, and all car movies, so thats why I was kinda into it (plus I love F1 and it is a Monaco, all Monaco's are around 2500).

I bought my first Tag three years ago, for $600, and people thought I was crazy! Well, it's kinda like our Bullitts, once you own one, you understand. It's been the best watch I've ever owned, and I'm planning on giving it to my son when he graduates from high school in two years, so I'm looking for an upgrade. Yesterday I was in the store where I bought mine, and they said it still looks brand new, except for some small scratches on the band, but they can refinish it for $50. I figure if you added up all of the bucks that I've spent on cheap watches over the years, I could have bought a McQueen edition by now! By the way, I've been told even by Rolex dealers, that they are great pieces of jewelry, but not very accurate time-keepers. They said the automatic movement is 40% less accurate than the quartz, and that goes for the Tag automatics as well. That's interesting, you pay more for less accuracy.

Hey gang...

McQueen didn't wear the Monaco watch in Bullitt, but in the later film "Le Mans." While driving the Mustang in Bullitt he's wearing what appears to be some sort of "dive" watch -- silver metal; round black face; black leather band.

I found a version of this by Armitron for 40 bucks at a local sporting goods store. If anyone has the supplement to the October 2000 issue of Automobile magazine called "Pilgrimages" (essentially a paid-for-by-Ford magazine-ette touting great destinations to drive various FoMoCo products to), you can see a cool shot where my right hand is reaching for the shifter in a bit of a blur -- the watch is there.
