I came across the July 2000 issue of Motor Trend, which had a test of two prototype Cobras. One was a SC 5.4 version with 6 spd. and 3.55 gear. The other was a much improved version of the 4.6 Cobra engine, with better heads, dual runner throttle body intake giving 380 HP at 7000 RPM! The numbers on the S/C 5.4 were 0-60 5.3 sec. and 13.4 at 109 MPH. The hot 4.6 was 0-60 at 4.4 and a 13.0 at 106.4. Traction, even with the 265-40 BFG G-Force tires,on the 5.8 SC,and bad gear ratios in the 6.spd,hindered better times. Seems that the higher tuned 4.6 may have made a better all around combo, since weight distribution was far better.
