I finally found the time and the warm weather to install my DS today.

If some of you are thinking of this mod but have not yet decided, go for it!

My Bullitt is so much smoother, not as much driveline slop and with the mooseballs off no vibration whatsoever!

Where did you get it from, and how much? I've been tossing around the idea myself, but i wasn't sure if the benefits would justify the cost.

I also installed an aluminum driveshaft and feel it's one of the best mods that you can do for a Mustang. What I've really enjoyed is the dramatic reduction in noise heard while driving. No more humming coming into the passenger compartment. I remember previous posters stating that they were pleasantly surprised by the reduced noise, but I still can't believe what a difference the aluminum driveshaft actually makes. I'd recommend this mod to anyone with a Mustang. On a side note, if I remember correctly I think the '03 Cobras are coming with the FRPP driveshaft stock.

Summitt Racing has one listed:

Ford: 1996-2000 4.6L Mustang GT, 1996-98 4.6L Mustang Cobra, with manual transmission, aluminum driveshaft assembly

Is this the same one?

I do not know about the one that Summit has. I would check the part numbers from Ford. Sorry I do not have this with me at the moment. The one I have fits a 2001 GT.

I realize that the driveshaft does not create more horsepower, but it does allow more of the existing horsepower to get to the rear wheels. Has anyone been to a dyno to see the difference?

In another thread with detailed pictures on how to install the DS, the author said you should use a 24 point socket or wrench for the four bolts at the pinion to DS flange. The bolts are not 24 point but are 12 point, so you need a 12 point socket.

Be sure to clean the threads on the bolts to remove the old thread locker before you apply fresh locktite (red) on the bolts prior to tightening them down.

When I removed the stock shaft there was some (tranny?)fluid that dribbled out at the forward splined shaft end, which may have been a result of a leaking seal that appears to be a problem with some of our transmissions. I noticed no more fluid dripping out so I am not too concerned, especially with a full warranty. I am hoping Ford will come out with a TSB on this and will address the problem if warranted.

You might do a search here to find the thread that has the install notes and pics for they were pretty detailed.

Thanks 5103. I have new bolts coming from the dealer, so they aren't gonna be a problem. Swapping drive shafts shouldn't be a problem.....but i figured since you did it already, you would know if any suprises might pop up. Thanks again.

anyone undercoat their car? Wondering if I should coat the D/S when it is installed.

Also, I made some Moose Stew yesterday, Karl.
Damn tasty with buttered bread and a Keiths India pale ale!

If you want a good marinade for wild meat, try beer (hint: gotta be canadian beer).

Typically groups that sanction racing events and indeed many drag strips require the driveshaft safety loop. I do not use one nor plan to.

The driveshaft comes balanced with yellow dots on it that you line up with the pinion flange.

I have experienced no vibration with my new aluminum shaft installed, without those yummy mooseballs! You should feel a big difference in the way the driveline feels SOTP.

I figured I will touch up the car chassis when the D/S is off and keep coat off the D/S- Al won't rust all to [email protected] anyways.

Labatts has some darker, thicker beers that I find are good for cooking; the way I see it, the fuller a beer, the more flavor it will give to your food. If you are going to use a light beer, just use water. Love microbrews though...
