Well, just thought I'd chime in to share for amusement and guidance that I fell victim to the exhaust quest...

Convinced myself I needed to open it up and put tuned shorties on and lost that perfect sound combo. I had the KR axle backs and adding the bbk tuned length ceramic headers tipped it too loud.

So I put the original bullitt mufflers back on and of course it's too quiet. Traded the KRs on craigslist for a set of Flowmaster American Thunder axle backs. Nice sound BUT wow, that's some serious resonant drone. Wife rode in it once and said not again till they're off.

SO, putting the original bullitts back on it today. Sounds good, just too quiet after having that awesome KR sound for a year before the shorties. and yeah, I did the shorty install myself, and if it wasn't such a pita of the job I might have gone back to the stock manifolds.

My 2 cents, if you have the KRs and stock manifolds and love the sound. DON'T touch the exhaust. Want more power out of it, cam it, super charge it but don't touch that exhaust.

Robert how we have all gone down the exhaust route.

The Borla tourings as Terry Honaker has pointed out really sound good. Loved them with my Pypes headers and high flow cats on my Bullitt.

The stock Bullitt mufflers are nice, but too quiet, I agree. I am in the exact same boat with my 2011. Stock too quiet, GT500s too loud, but sound really good.

As they say, "you can't have your cake and eat it too".

Robert, i can share my experance only. I had thu 400 hp whipple s/c, with edelbrock tuned short headers, detroit rocker cams.

It killed thu orignal bullitt sound. I felt there was to much exhaust going thru the oem mufflers. That turned out to be thu case.

I then put uh set of borla touring mufflers on. That opened it up for a great sound, cam lope un all. Good luck,

Robert,

If you want the best of both worlds I (Highly) suggest simply changing to the Borla (Touring) complete stainless exhaust system.

That is as close as you are going to get to a NON Drone under the Majority of driving situations.

Also just so I mention this, if you LUG it in a Higher-Gear at a Slow Speed you can get Drone even with the Borla (Touring).

But the (Touring) exhaust sounds really Throaty with what most of us like.

It is a normal sound at idle or just cruising at say 70-75 MPH on the interstate.

I have tried maybe 6-7 different exhaust now and have stuck with the Borla (Touring) for the last few years.

I am thinking it will stay in place.

It all depends what you are looking for. If you want one of the best bang for the buck performance mods, a set of long tube headers are your best bet after a tune. These 3 valve motors really respond to long tubes. And if you are going with cams or forced induction, dumping the cast iron manifolds is a no-brainer. I kept my stock mufflers with the long tubes and high flow cats and love the sound. But it's a matter of personal opinion. I was looking for some more power, and wanted to still be able to hear my radio.

I've been down muffler row, I believe that the Borla touring muffler is the best muffler for sound, fit and looks😜

GT500's too loud? Fer real? I consider mine way too quiet, even after 20k. At first, they were way too quiet but, thankfully, have opened up a bit as the miles have passed. IMO, they are the muffler that should've come stock on the last gen Stang, albeit w/nicer tips. The GT500 cans make a Stang sound like it's supposed to sound.

Given my druthers tho, I'd still go back for another set of Steeda cans anyday over my stock Bullitt or '14 GT exhaust. They were righteous- best sounding cans I ever had on a car & zero drone. The FR500 mufflers were next on my list.

I completely agree. I put the GT500 mufflers on right away and was happy for awhile... Yesterday I had exhaust cutouts installed. Now I can have my very loud deep sound when I want then switch back to the quiet GT500's to sneak around again haha

Been poking around the forum and was wondering if anyone knows approx how much more rwhp the aftermarket mufflers (Borla, KR's) put out compared to stock B mufflers when running the long tubes and hi flow cats?
My understanding is the Bullitt Stock Exhaust including the mufflers works just fine up to 500 RWHP.

Most people I think change it simply for the increased exhaust sound more so than actual added performance.
