Well, just thought I'd chime in to share for amusement and guidance that I fell victim to the exhaust quest...
Convinced myself I needed to open it up and put tuned shorties on and lost that perfect sound combo. I had the KR axle backs and adding the bbk tuned length ceramic headers tipped it too loud.
So I put the original bullitt mufflers back on and of course it's too quiet. Traded the KRs on craigslist for a set of Flowmaster American Thunder axle backs. Nice sound BUT wow, that's some serious resonant drone. Wife rode in it once and said not again till they're off.
SO, putting the original bullitts back on it today. Sounds good, just too quiet after having that awesome KR sound for a year before the shorties. and yeah, I did the shorty install myself, and if it wasn't such a pita of the job I might have gone back to the stock manifolds.
My 2 cents, if you have the KRs and stock manifolds and love the sound. DON'T touch the exhaust. Want more power out of it, cam it, super charge it but don't touch that exhaust.
