So I'm heading up my favorite drive on Mt Soledad, a nice 1.5 mi steep grade. I love doing it in 3rd mid range just for that exhaust note. Unfortunately, I end up behind a small rice burner w/a large wing on the trunk and the guy is going painstakingly slow holding up myself and about three other vehicles.

Pretty soon we come to a point where the lane opens up and I pull to the left to pass. Now mind you, I'm not trying to race this guy, but he drops the hammer just as I pull abreast of him.

I don't know what came over me, but still in third, I punch it and easily leave him in the dust. I watched him disappearing through my passenger mirror all the while listening to his engine straining. I put it into 4th just as I was coming around a top bend where I knew there would be a traffic light. Sure enough, the light was red and I pull up next an older cadillac.

Since I was making a left and I knew the next light a block away is usually red, I took my time easing out as the light changed. well, The Cadi went straight and the rice burner must have thought the race was still on cause he just tears around the corner. I just looked over and laughed as this youngster passes me and gets stuck at the red light.

Man it felt soooo goood

Ahhh, the satisfaction of that understated "I would say, 'I told you so;' but, then, I didn't really have to. So I didn't."

Excellent work representing us! :D

Obviously he needed a bigger muffler. Or maybe his wing was creating too much downforce and needed adjusting. Or he forgot to turn on his turbo. Or he forgot to turn on the lights under the body, which would had stimulated the electrons between the car and the ground and caused the car to be lighter. Or maybe...............

No, no, his problem was not enough 'R-type' stickers. Everyone knows those are worth 10 Hp each!

no trouble with rice burners in Queens

Nicely done, Ron!

You knew both the capabilities of your Bullitt and the road ahead! ;)

We have a LOT of Rice Burners here in Queens.

But I've never been in a situation where any of them have challenged me. Not even on the Long Island Expressway.

I take that as a sign of the general intelligence level of NYC area drivers.

Or maybe they've seen the movie... and know how the chase scene ends!
