I'm really torn on this subject because I had many experiences with Mustang II's in my youth. Ford did try to get back to basics with a smaller Mustang but even with a 302 these cars were not made for street racing. Look at the Mustang emblem in the grill and it looks more like a pony than a horse. But, a friend did own a '78 King Cobra and I thought it was so cool, T-roofs and all. I never thought that in 1982 the Mustang would really be back. (Don't forget that the '82 Mustang GT was supposed to be called the Mustang SS-check out Motor Trend in August and September of 1981)

Yes, I think that the Mustang IIs are real
Mustangs.(1974-1978) This was a low point
for all performance cars. (Base Corvettes only had
165 HP in 1975) IMHO, a Mustang is a
Mustang. Period.

Just my 4.6 cents

Collin

I agree with PY.......a Mustang is a Mustang. There is quite a following of the II's in the US and they really get upset with all the car mags that hardly ever cover any of the II's (kinda like "black sheep").

you can look at it how you want but if it says its a mustang than its a mustang. If it says its a ford its a ford. a desk top is a computer and so is a laptop, but one is smaller right?

I also agree. My first car was a 74 Mustang II with the french made V6 and C4. This could have been the weakest Mutang ever made? I still liked it and if I hadn't bought it I prolly would not be driving a Bullitt today..

I agree with you wholeheartdly llama_boy! That was my first stang when I was 19. Special ordered it from the factory. Kept it for 10 years and had NO mechanical problems with it except fuel pump. I really liked the plush carpet in it!

Never liked them myself, BUT, a Mustang is a Mustang...and if it wasn't for them, the name might not have lived on, and we wouldn't be talking here today!

My husband really likes the Cobra II's.

yes. a mustang is a mustang! in '76 i bought a brand spanking new mustang "cobra II". black w/gold stripes. 302 v8. auto trans. no. it wasn't the fastest car around, it just looked like it. no mechnical problems. only reason i let it go was because my kids car seats would not fit in the back seat.

I know someone who hates Fords. I get ragged on all the time because I just absolutely adore Mustangs. But he had a 78 King Cobra and taught his wife, who is Korean, to drive the thing. He said it was the only Ford he ever liked.

As for Mustang II... never heard of em!
I thought they quit making mustangs from 74-78. hahahhaa
