The "Big Chicken" is actually a Kentucky Fried Chicken place. Not sure if it still stands.

Hey, the Falcons were called the "big chickens" when I was growing up in "Hot Lanta" 1960-1978. Ooops! I am aging myself here...

BLT5103 got it!

It's parked out side the front gate to Dobbins ARB, off Hwy 41, just south of the Big Chicken in Marietta.

Yes, the Big Chicken still stands. It's a historical land mark now. KFC still operates it. They tried to tear it down a few years ago, but rebuilt it instead. All the years of pigeon crap screwed up the gears that operated the eyes and beak. When they rebuilt it, they made them work again. They also put a prickly roof on the chickens head, to ***** pigeons in the butt if they try and land on it.

I swear the story you are about to read is true...

When I was in high school (yeah gonna age myself a bit more here!)I think about 1975 or 1976, me and some of my football team buds decided we would get tanked up and cruise around town in a guys parents convertable Bonneville or some such beast.

We were all from the Roswell area not too far from Dobbins AFB.

Long story short we got so sloshed (4-5 of us) we ended up on the tarmac in this guys car at Dobbins. None of us realized it/cared until a jet flew over the top of us coming in for a landing. This was no small jet fighter but some huge plane that scared the S--t out of us. We quite singing whatever song we were singing and hightailed it out of there.

We never saw an MP, cop ect... I forget what happened after we hit the main road. I vaguely remember seeing that plane that night, which is posted here, gotta be my old age.

Tells you alot about security back then!
