Just saw the previews on TV and I could not
believe the helicopter combat action.
As a former Navy Seahawk helicopter pilot
I groove on movies that have alot of
helicopter action...I just hope that the
previews are not misleading as we know is
often the case. Jerry Bruckheimer is the
producer and has "Top Gun" and "The Rock"
to his credit. "Blackhawk Down" starts this
Friday everywhere and I will be the first in
line. Anyone else planning on seeing this
movie?

Hell yeah! This movie looks awesome! Behind enemy lines was good too, at least the first few minutes of Hornet action. The slow-motion scenes with the Hueys at the end were cool too!

Walkman003309, so this is about all that
mayhem that went down in Somalia? I glanced
at the website briefly. Thanks for that by-
the-way! WOW! This is a book/movie about our
heroic U.S. Army Rangers. I gotta see this
movie!

Thanks again for that website Walkman!

The helicopters were just props...the Rangers
and Delta Force are the heroes that are
center stage. I thought wrong, the bravery
displayed by U.S. Army Rangers and Delta
Force is what this was about.

God bless them!

You should rethink your statement there. Landing a Hughes 500 in the middle of a street-firefight where a Blackhawk was just shot down is not a "prop".
Orbiting over the troops providing high cover knowing RPG's are in the area is not a "prop".
Flying strafing runs ALL NIGHT LONG with 2.75" rockets and miniguns so the troops can survive is not a "prop".
The helo crews were as much the heros in this battle as the ones on the ground.

Hi Dennis,

I do agree with what you are saying. Being
a former helo pilot, I thought the flying
was AMAZING. When the movie was over, I
walked out of the theater feeling kinda
strange. I think I had gone into the movie
psyched to appreciate some great helo
flying...which there was! I was not all
that familiar with what actually went down
in the Mog and I was literally shocked
by the heroism of the Rangers, Delta and
the Army pilots. When I walked out of the
theater I felt overwhelmed by the overall
heroism which I think didn't allow me to
appreciate the helo flying itself which I
was originally anticipating.

Yes, I miss spoke, the helos were not props.
They were a big part of the overall heroic
effort that occurred. I think I got too
wrapped up in all the mayhem that was
happening on the ground.

I didn't think before hitting the "submit"
button!

I'm sorry, thanks for setting me straight, Dennis.

No need to apologize, Collin. I figured that's what you meant, I was just trying to clarify the helo role for those who read your comment but didn't read the book or see the movie (yet).
Now for the real tragedy...not a single nomination for "Blackhawk Down" at the Golden Globes. Oh well, that's what you get in Hollywood when you shoot for accuracy rather than exploitation.
I hope it gets Academy nominations. I'd call it best picture of the year.

Remember who riggs the votes for those awards, the Liberal left from Hollywood. They would rather vote for a movie about a family of ducks than a true to life military one. Except ones with Tom Hanks in it.

Man, I just went and seen the movie and it is intense.
Boy, an I glad I made the right instead of the left at the recuters office, 25 years ago.
My sailiors think I an a$$hole when I make them work hard. I guess they are spoiled. They could have been in the Army getting shot at instead of whinning about missing chow because a jet broke down and has to be fixed before the next go, No honor nor committment.

Jimmy, I am glad I made the 'right' instead
of the 'left' also. I can't even imagine
flying a helo into anything like that!
I'll take boring 4 hour missions over the water
looking for "Ivan" anytime. The Army pilots
must be issued wheel barrows to get around.
They have some major nads. I bet the Rangers
and Delta Forces are issued wheel barrows too!

Well it was a great movie. However, a lady watching the movie didn't agree. Right about the time when they are trying to put a clamp on that guys femoral artery, she lost it and THREW UP just outside the doors as she was trying to make it to the bathroom. It certainly made for an interesting movie experience.

Watch the making of the movie on cable. Those were real Black Hawks and Rangers contracted from the Pentagon to make the movie! No wonder it looks so damn real. It was filmed in Morocco.
