Hey folks,

If we want do this right, we’ll need a planning committee. I have a contact (family member) in Reno, NV who plans and coordinates large-scale conferences for the State of Nevada in Vegas! She is willing to help organize the first Bullitt Club Nationals in Las Vegas! (for a small fee of course). She has tons of contacts, including the Las Vegas Speedway, in the Vegas area and would really help make this something historic.

I suggest forming a planning committee for this project. We’ll need a chairman, and several committee members to organize the various parts. Suggest, a committee person or two, be elected/volunteered for each city along RT 66 from Chicago to Vegas. We’ll also need a committee member or two to handle all publicity/sponsorship. We’ll need a couple committee members to organize (with assistance from my Nevada contact) events in Vegas as well.

After we form a committee, we’ll need to settle on a date (at least 6 months out to give people time to plan) to hold the 1st Annual Bullitt Club Nationals. I will volunteer to help organize this in any way possible, but we need to get organized if it’s ever going to happen.

This was Mus408’s idea (Bullitt Club Nationals), and it is the best one I've seen on this site to date!

Here are the likely candidates for RT 66 cities. Chicago, St Louis, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Las Vegas.

I’m suggesting we need at least 18 volunteers to organize this. Two for each RT 66 city, two for publicity/sponsors and a Chairman and Vice Chairman.

I’ll volunteer to co-chair, or work with someone as the Vegas Team (since I have the contact in Reno).

What do you say folks…anybody with me on this?

Volunteers sound off!

Awesome Daryl!

Forgive me, but I didn't mean to leave out our Canadian Bullitts! That would be great! The guys from the BC area could meet in Vegas and the guys from Eastern Canada could make their way to the Windy City for a nice cruise on RT 66!

Thanks for volunteering!

I would be happy to assist with this project. I could help at the Gateway to the West i.e. St. Louis stop on Route 66. Let me know if this is possible.

Does anyone think a 700 mile drive (10-11hrs) is too much for one day?

Trying to figure out the best places to stop over on RT 66 to Vegas for the Nationals.

Looks like each leg of Chicago-Tulsa-Albuquerque-Las Vegas is 700 miles each. This would make it a 3 day drive to Vegas from Chicago and allow for 2-3 days in Vegas.

So the whole thing could almost be done in a week if you were doing the whole route.

What do you think about inviting Chad McQueen as a guest speaker at the Nationals?

Here are my thoughts:

Saturday, Chicago to Tulsa
Sunday, Tulsa to Albuquerque
Monday, Albuquerque to Vegas
Tuesday, 10AM - 3PM, Car Show/Grip and Grin
4PM - 8PM, Welcome Reception
Wednesday AM Race Day at Las Vegas Speedway
Wednesday PM Banquet and Awards
Thursday Free day in Vegas or start home (or maybe stay the weekend!)

Need suggestions of Vendors who will want a booth. Ford (main sponsor), MGW, Steeda, etc?

I pulled 600-800 miles/day last year hauling a F350 diesel 4x4 with a camper California to Georgia...I dare say doing it in the Bullitt would be much more comfortable...(except in the back seat  )

That would be one hell of a drive for the east cost.

I think we should put the location up for a vote as well. Someone else bought up the idea of Tulsa as a meeting place. It’s more centrally located, plus route 66 runs through it as well.

It maybe a good Idea to have two meetings, one for the west/central US and the other for the east/central US. I always thought it would be good to have it in DC but thats crazy for the west coasters

I vote England (just kidding) seriously I think it's a great idea for us all to get together but why not simplify things and go as a group to an MCA "Ponytrail" event. Then again S.F. would be nice, we could re-trace the movie case scene route (at speed of course)

I'd love to have a Bullitt gathering for all Bullitt's, but I think roushraven has a good idea. Until we get most of the owners on here where we could go to location and say we want to bring say 4-5,000 cars to their city to spend money, I'm not sure how much help we'd get. I'm speaking from the expierence of have the Easyriders in town every year for their largest "rodeo".

I would have to say I like the idea of Vegas because I live in California. I think a large group of bullits going down the strip would be an awsome video. I dont like the idea of going to a ford weekend because I would rather have the excitment of just the Bullitts and the attitude and care Bullitt owners have. But I would go atleast half way accross the US to go to a gathering. I do think that a gathering in San Fran still has to be a must someday.

My contact in Reno can handle all the coordination with the hotel (casino) and the Las Vegas Speedway. This includes attracting sponsors, setting up a master account at the casino and the whole works. I do agree it will be a long drive for east coasters so what about this...

Let's just all meet in Vegas on our own rather than trying to meet a dealine to cruise in together. This way East Coasters can take their time. Vegas handles 4000-5000 car rally's and shows all the time. I doubt even 50% of the bullittclub members would attend. But, 500-1000 bullitts in Vegas at one time would be awesome.

I still think we need to form a committee to vote for everything, including location and schedule.

Lets do this strategically...otherwise I don't think we could pull it off.

I bet ford would even sponsor if asked.

Hey just a thought if we only invite bullitt cars where probably not going to have a big turnout, we have that problem in the shelby american club, theres just not that many around. Maybe we should try to combine our event with one of the larger all ford clubs, they do most of the work, and they always have one type of car as the feature car for the nationals, could be us.

just a thought

I agree that Vegas is a LONG run for the East Coast Bullitts.
Suggestion: MCA is having a National Event in Fairfax,Va. on June 27-30. So the East Coast Bullitts could meet in the DC area.If we could contact the Green Valley Mustang Club in Tulsa for their Regional Event that is normally held in Sept. of each year. That would work for the West Coast Bullitts.
Thats my 2 cents.

I think the idea of having any Bullitt get together in association with a Ford event is the best way to go. I previously was a member of the Taurus SHO registry. They have had about 8 national conventions in the last 10 years. All have been in central or east U.S. The one they planned for Las Vegas was cancelled because of a very low registration. The SHO club had near 5000 members at its peak and still never had more than 150 members show up at a convention. A lot of people will say "I'll go!", but when it comes time to commit to money and vacation time, people will back out. My estimate is only about 40 to 60 people will actually attend a Bullitt only gathering. Not that I want to put a damper on the idea, but this is reality.

I hate to agree, but it's true, it will most likely be a low attendence. The best route would more likley than not be to get together with some other group. It would lower costs and allow for more people to attend.

I think we should do it with another group as a start for a couple of years to gauge the turn out, a "test" so to speak.
