I ran an LS1 Z28 from a 60 punch this weekend and I put three cars on him by the time I hit 140. I thought he was going to blow by but I just kept pulling.. Has anyone else ran a LS1?

Very Good Kill, since those speeds are supposed to be where the LS1s do their best! Any Mods?

Thats great, but after watching "the Fast and the Furious" I'd rather start eating Supras and Hondas. After all, rice is good for you!

I got my a** handed to me by a Camaro SS
at the local dragstrip...probably beat me
by 10 car lengths. I talked to him later
and he said his car was stock...he opens
the hood and there were all sorts of mods
in there. I say "That's not stock." (point-
ing at his supercharger) He says "yes it is".
I say "riiight" and walk away shaking my
head laughing.

Don't sweat about an SS, a WS6 has been found to be faster!

Please don't flame me, but here goes..

The LS1 engine was introduced to the f-body in 1998. Since then I have owned three f-body cars, the last was a WS6 Ram Air 6 speed Firebird. Two out of the three were 6 speeds. They were all basically stock except for a 160 stat, SLP air lid w/K&N filter. They were all MUCH faster then my Bullitt. The LS1 motor is far superior then our 4.6 noise makers. But, it is the truth.
I ran a 12.73 @108.6mph with drag radials at our local track. At 60 mph, it would have pulled away from any Mustang. I am not dogging Ford, but lets face it, Ford just doesn't have the ponies that GM has. And GM under-rate their engines. Advertised HP was 320, but when I put it on the dyno, it dyno'd at 319 rwhp and 331.6 rwt. There isn't a Mustang that can come close to that.

I rest my case.

I agree!!!! After I drive my WS6 and then the Bullitt, I can notice the power difference immediately! Not to say the Bullitt is slow, because it most certainly is not. It's just that the LS1 is one AMAZING engine!

This whole Mustang vs Camaro/Firebird thread is getting OOOLLLDDD!

We all know the F-body is fast, fast, fast. And I agree that GM makes a better motor than Ford. I have a '99 GMC with the 5.3 Vortec and it is one fine motor. However, the thing knocks like a diesel every morning and GM says "they all do that". Point being, even the mighty GM motors have thier quirks.

My question is; if the F-Body is so wonderful, why is it dead? Answer: A good motor ain't enough.

My LS1 makes no knock noise whatsoever.

I agree that the Camaro/Firebird/Mustang thing is getting old (but I don't mind it) so I won't bother answering why the fbody is dead as it would take to long.

I would be interested in your theory. To me it's quite simple. Not enough units sold. If GM was making the $ it wanted to off the F-Body they would not have killed it. Ford tried to do away with the Fox Body Mustang years ago but they just sell too damn many of them. With the tooling long paid for, they make a good profit on each one.

I like the F-Body. Always have. Before the Bullitt came out I was SERIOUSLY considering a Camaro SS 6-Speed. You are not going to get an argument from me about the car. I personally prefer the look of the Camaro over the Firebird but that is simply a personal preference issue.

I have NEVER had a noise issue with any of my f-bodied LS1 engines, including my 2001 Corvette Coupe.

I prefer the looks of my Bullitt to the f-body.

What I would like is this, to have an LS1 or even better, an LS6 in my Bullitt. To me, that would be the best of BOTH WORLDS! Am I asking for too much?

My side of the story so don't be too rough on the newbie.

The WS-6 TA is nice. I've raced a 99 and barely beat it. Probably the driver because I gave it a good run to 110 and he was still 1 car behind me. And he offered to give me a length and the go! But that being said, some LS1s and Bullitts for that matter, are tweeked a little better than others. Its just a factory thing I guess.

My V-6 Mustang would hand a modded V-6 from 94-99 up their ass while I retained a stockish form. That's until I raced that 99 v-6 5speed. Ugh.

I have a friend with a 01 Z28 with Cut out whatever in the front, a tuner, muffler, and a few other knick knacks, and he can only pull 5 on me before it evens out. A race on I45 heading toward Galveston proved that. He should have around 80 to 90 more hp than me too. But he's only running a 13.4 in the track and slightly beating other F bodies.

Maybe I have it good because I only raced modded Fbodies and such that I have to race harder and faster to keep up. Good for mental and physical race training right?

Point is: F bodies are nice cars. Granted they're about as old as the Fox chassis cars are. They produce more power than a OHC motor, well, atleast the GTs anyway. But I'd like to think Ford made it to where we have the option of picking which engine car we'd like to have. GM is 3.8 or 5.7. Either at 200, 305 or 320 while Ford uses 3 different motors ie the 3.8, 4.6 SOHC and DOHC. (no matter what you say, they still are different motors) We have more options. The WS-6 package is expensive, though some F body owners might disagree. I priced one @ 31k, and that's with getting a discount because I knew one of the managers. Maybe due to different times of the year sales or whatever can account but simply stating, if I wanted to go as fast as an LS1, I would've bought a Cobra. Wheel hop or not, I've seen plenty of Cobras eat LS1s... And the other way around too.

BTW, you guys are funny. I'm glad to be back.

From what I have seen and read, a stock Cobra would not be able take a stock WS6. As always, it depends on the driver.

The Bullitt is perfect in almost every way. But, I love the WS6's hp. Could not afford to get both, so I'm moding my Bullitt to achieve better than WS6 performance levels. With my present and future Mods, Bullitt 04009 will still be several thousand cheaper than buying a 2002 WS6.

Many times it comes down to the driver and how well he/she is in tune with their own car(I once beat a loud 1970 V8 Camaro from a rolling stop to 50MPH with a 91 Escort GT and I have a witness).

There is one thing that I find funny about all the F-Body talk and how they are faster. Prior to 1993 when the Camaro(aka Geo Storm on Steroids MHO) made its debut, Stock 5.0 Mustangs would trounce Stock 5.7 Camaros and Firebirds. Until the LS1 was put into those cars they were slower than the stock stangs. That is one reason stangs sold better. GM flipped that one over on Ford by using the LS1 and the F-bodies became the hotter car. However, Ford's restyling got the best of the GMs in 1994 and up. I for one am sad  they are being dropped from production simply because competition improves the breed. If Ford really wanted to be king on the street, they could do it with by using versions of the 5.4 which would improve both HP and TQ for the GT/Cobra. The point is they don't have to because they still outsell the competition. Especially when the competition is going away.
