Just got some info from the local dealer. A Marketing release he received last night states that the price will be a $4,495 premium over the GT Coupe, making the full price $38,594 including A/C tax.

WHAT?! That's bloody highway robbery! The premium in the U.S. is under $2,000 but it's almost $5,000 up here? And all the while our dollar is worth more? Nice. Guess if I was going to buy one I'd have to make a trip south of the border. But, since I'm totally happy with my '01, I'll just stay put and maybe buy a used one in a few years. Let somebody else get screwed first.

I'm in London, Ont. Canada. I was at my dealer this morning and that $4495 number is what he got in a memo from Ford. I told him that that was crazy! I said last week the general manager told me $1895 dealer cost, so it should be around $2200.
He brought it up on the computer and the Bullitt option came up as $2200.
So there is some real confusion at the moment. The systems won't accept orders or give any final pricing. So we'll see how this all plays out.

31,000US is about $28,000Can right now. Why would I give a dealer here in Canada $40,000 when I can get it for $12,000 less in the US?
Something is really wrong with this damn socialist country we live in.
Of course our Gov't did make the stores adjust the cost difference in books and magazine- big deal!!!!

Sorry, I misread the memo, it is indeed $4,495. I have edited my original post.

These prices are going to have to change or the auto industry in Canada will suffer even worse than it already is. And sorry, Greg, but I think it has very little to do with the exchange rate. Why are car prices in Canada still 30% or more higher than in the U.S. - just like they were when the Canadian dollar was worth .65 U.S. - now that the Canadian dollar is worth 1.07 U.S.? And an option that costs under 2k in the U.S. costs two and a half times that up here? I don't think so!

The way I've heard it is the Manufacturer (Ford Canada) dtermines the price based on the exchange rate capping it at X. So when our dollar was only worth .60 US the cars were capped at a 30% premium over the equal US cars. This is determined months/years in advance. Advantage to the Consumer. Once our dollar started to skyrocket things remained the same. Advantage Ford.

Now I'm not saying I agree with it because I did a lot of *****ing with the Shelby. 43k US 52k Canadian. Keep in mind back in 01 the Bullitt Theme car option was 5695.00 with a list price of 37,310.00 so six years later the same "Theme" car is only 1-2k more.

Lastly, I read in the Toronto Star wheels section a couple weeks ago that the big 3 all have the "Adjustment" plan done. Nobody want's to be first to drop the prices for fear of being hammered by the industry. However, once the first one does the other two will follow shortly thereafter. That came from the President of Ford Canada

I guess I'll wait for the prices to drop before I buy anything, then. Not that I was planning to buy anything in the near future, anyway, unless Paul wants to write me a nice, big cheque. :)

The DRL is an expensive modification to a car. IDK, sucky to me...

It's B.S., that's all. You can't honestly tell me that it's because of any of the Canadian features, or that Ford sets their Canadian prices 5 years or more in advance. In 2001, we paid $10k more than the U.S. price at a time when the U.S. dollar was worth 1.50 to 1.60 Canadian dollars. Now we're going to pay $8k more than the U.S. price, even though our dollar is worth 1.05 to 1.10 U.S. dollars? Ya right!

Sure, just don't try to cash it... ;)

Lisa's car comes of lease in about 5 months. We were thinking of something like an Edge or Escape and I'm hoping they adjust the pricing by then.
