here in michigan you can't drive 2 miles w/ out seeing 3 car washes. you have your reg drive through car was, your do it yourself car wash, and the ever so useless gas station you fill up w/ over priced gas, we was you car in a tin can, car wash. So the question is should you drive you car through a car wash? I've always been told the car washes will mark your car up and it's not good for it..

If you can avoid it, DON'T DO IT! The brushes
are not that good for the clearcoat. If you
can find a garage that is heated where you
can wash your Bullitt, use that. Maybe you
can wait for a nice day and take it to the
do-it-yourself car wash but don't get the
high pressure nozzle to close to the paint.
Don't use that freeeking brush they have
there either.

Just my 4.6 cents,

Good luck,

Collin

Stay away from those gas station car washes with the high speed 'brushes' that spin around--then can and will leave tiny swirl/scratch marks in celearcoat paint--Ilearned the hardway about 5 years ago with a company car.

01281Sc93 is correct. My wife's '96 Jeep got
swirled the first time through an automatic
car wash! Sorry, I forgot to mention that B4.
She took it there without letting me know...
then I noticed the swirls in the clearcoat.
AAAARRRRGGGG! Just don't do it.

Don't do it! You're better off leaving the crap on your car 'till you can remove it in the traditional manner. The scratches will be a nightmare to undo.

I've seen a Corvette that wore wax on the sidepipes all winter long to protect them. Find another way to care for your Bullitt.

Your Bullitt will thank you.

If it is touchless, how does it remove the
dirt? Curious.

No offense, but that above pic looks like some serious HIGH pressure water impact!
No thanks, I would bypass that IMHO.

NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR THROUGH A CAR WASH. PERIOD.
It will F&)*#CK up your paint.
One note also, if you are like me, my bullitt is my daily driver. I drive in the snow, sleet, rain, etc. They salt the roads when it snows and the build up of dirt and sand is deadly when it comes time to wash. Always hose off the sand with semi-high pressure before washing otherwise washing your car will be like using sandpaper ! BTW: On the automated wash places, everyone and their sister uses them. i.e, 4x4 and the such. Some of the sand stays in those "brushes" and if you are one of the lucky ones that goes behind a 4x4 that has just been mud bogging........ well, you get the ugly picture.

Jday - I feel your pain. I am live in Southfield and #2764 is my every day car. There is nothing worse than having a beautiful car like ours and having that nice white coating eating away at your car. I hate going to the car washes because of the swirl marks or scratches but that salt look sucks!!! What to do?? :???: :???:

If you can avoid it, please do! One car wash tore the paint off of my Cobra (we were in Orlando and the car was "dirty"). Because we don't like to drive dirty cars, during the water restrictions last year, I began taking the snake to the car wash 2-3 times a week until, one day, I looked at the paint, and never again...We were able to wax it and it looks pretty darned good for nine years old, but never again. When we travelled in the Grand National, we took our own cleaning supplies (bucket and all) and we'd find car washes where we could wash the car ourselves!!!

I wash mine at the car washes that have the hand held sprayers...(I won't use the brush though - evil)..I wash,soap,wash,soap...then I take a bucket/hand mitt/soapy water(using Simoniz Car Wash Gel)and hand wash it from top to bottom(also wash my hand mitt at home before I use it each time)...then I go back and soap, and rinse, rinse, rinse.Does anyone not suggest this method for any reason?please let me know.
It will usually cost me about 10-15$ and I don't really care if people have to wait behind me.:-B

Hey Jday and #2764 I live in Novi. Maybe we can have some kind of git together this spring. I hate to say this but I take my car to the car wash but the blower's don't touch the car. I've been looking for any kind of swirling and don't see anything. If I did I'd quit and hand wash it. But I don't see anything on any of my vehicles, not just the Bullitt

Many full service car washes will offer a hand wash as one of their services. I've used the same car wash for about 20 years, they use the soft cloth strips to clean and a blower to partially dry the car. I've never had a problem with any of my Cads or
Q-45s having damage, but this may be an exceptional car wash. When I took my Bullitt in, they would hand wash only because the tires didn't protrude enough outside the wheels. They said there was a chance that their "track" could damage the wheels. I know every person there on a first name basis, so maybe that makes a difference too. Bottom line---all the previous info is very good advice. Using an automated car wash IS a risky situation---OWNER BEWARE!!
