Hi all,
My car's just where I want it...now it's time to move up to premium fuel and correct the speedo for the 3.73 rear.
Here's the problem...I called Paul's High Perf. and Gene at Perf. Ford and they both said that speedo corrections cannot be made with their chips. Apparently SuperChip is having a bear trying to correct for 2001 Mustang speedos, and they may have a new chip out that can do it in a couple months. Rather than get a speedo correction module (about $100) and then a perf chip I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone. These custom chips are expensive at around $340. Gene offered to make me a chip and then reprogram it to correct the Speedo for free when that ability comes from SuperChip.
I checked into Saleen's Poweflash, but found that it's not a chip but simply a reprogramming of the computer for high octane. I assume this will not change rev limiters, or speedometer corrections. Also, it takes three days for the processor turn-around...but it's only $200 plus freight. The Saleen guy argued that this is better because "Chips just are trying to make the computer do something it doesn't want to do".
I'm looking for any ideas or suggestions that anyone might have. Right now I figure the best thing to do is take Gene's offer or wait for a chip that can do it all (until then I typed up a simple speedo calibration chart and taped it to the dash).
By the way, you've all been a big help in the past and my Bullitt and I thank you for all the super, friendly input! :-B
