Hi all,
My car's just where I want it...now it's time to move up to premium fuel and correct the speedo for the 3.73 rear.

Here's the problem...I called Paul's High Perf. and Gene at Perf. Ford and they both said that speedo corrections cannot be made with their chips. Apparently SuperChip is having a bear trying to correct for 2001 Mustang speedos, and they may have a new chip out that can do it in a couple months. Rather than get a speedo correction module (about $100) and then a perf chip I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone. These custom chips are expensive at around $340. Gene offered to make me a chip and then reprogram it to correct the Speedo for free when that ability comes from SuperChip.

I checked into Saleen's Poweflash, but found that it's not a chip but simply a reprogramming of the computer for high octane. I assume this will not change rev limiters, or speedometer corrections. Also, it takes three days for the processor turn-around...but it's only $200 plus freight. The Saleen guy argued that this is better because "Chips just are trying to make the computer do something it doesn't want to do".

I'm looking for any ideas or suggestions that anyone might have. Right now I figure the best thing to do is take Gene's offer or wait for a chip that can do it all (until then I typed up a simple speedo calibration chart and taped it to the dash).

By the way, you've all been a big help in the past and my Bullitt and I thank you for all the super, friendly input! :-B

I just called Saleen again and was informed that they DO NOT have a Powerflash for the Bullitt, nor do they plan on ever making one. Guess that eliminates that specific option.

Dennis, I got my chip from Gene at performanceford.com. He reburned my chip for free when SuperChips came out with another revision for the Bullitt. Hard to beat that kind of service after the sale.

Dennis, forget the chip unless it was burned on a dyno. dallas mustangs sells a little box called speed cal. for about 59.99 easy to install comes with dip switchs for any gear app. Had one on my '99 cobra w/3:73 gear
speed o was dead nuts on.try useing steedas timing adjuster. have mine set at 13 also if you go blown or use nos you can fine tune it retard or advance. And if you go blown guess what you get another chip. try explaining that u have 3:73 gears in the car. more confussion

Today I called Dallas Mustang (http://www.dallasmustang.com) and spoke with Chris who does all their chip-burning. He said they use Autologic chips and these chips can correct the speedo for the 3.73 gears. The chip will also do the other nice things chips do: Increase rev limiter ~200rpm, increase timing for high octane fuel, alter time fans come on, and other little driveability things. Sounded like a decent deal for $250, about $100 less than the competition, and kills two birds with one stone so I ordered it...will be here in a few days.
