If you are going to get bent out of shape about stories of excessive speed, you might just want to skip this one

So I'm on my way to work tonight ~11:30 PM. In order to get to the highway from my house, I have to cross a straight bridge slightly < 1/4 mile, then work through a redlight laden downtown before picking up the onramp.

I see headlights behind me as I'm getting onto the bridge, and I goose it *a bit* as I head down the bridge to the light at the end. By the time I stop, I can tell that the headlights careening towards me are from a fox body Mustang. I'm more than a little p*ssed as he stops, since I'm bracing myself to get rear ended when he pulls into the other lane at the last second.

Beside me a see a very cherry black 5.0 hatch. I'm not so great at IDing the fox bodies, but it looked alot like this '88: '88 5.0 Hatch
Despite my indignation at the time, I can't help but notice how well cared for the car looks. Other than some fairly wide tires, it is visibly stock.

The light goes green, and he spins and smokes while I launch fairly hard and scoot up to the next light. At this point, I'm somewhat torn, because I've got ~15 blocks of redlights to go through, and I really don't want to be racing this guy through downtown. BUT, I'm hoping he hits the highway with me, which I expect to be clear of obstruction.

All through downtown, he peels from every light, and I work a bit to keep up, but not too hard. Frankly, he's driving much faster and more recklessly than I feel comfortable doing in this type of area. I let the lights work as an equalizer so I don't have to get too far outside my comfort zone. Through much of downtown, there's a red 94-98 with us, but he didn't really seem to want any. He came over the bridge with the hatch, and I suspect they may have known each other or already had their fun together.

As we hit the highway, he's in front and I'm right behind him. We both jam on it coming off the onramp. Shockingly, he doesn't go straight for the left lane, so I do. By the end of second, I'm 1/2 to 1 car ahead. Although I know that I SHOULD beat a stock 5.0, the car seems clean enough, and he has been driving aggressively enough, that I was a little surprised by this, figuring there must be some engine mods.

I continue to open up the gap throughout all of 3rd gear. I don't know how much ahead I was, but it was easily 10+ lengths. At about 110 in 4th, I put it in 5th and held my speed, as I contemplated slowing down. He was barelling up on me so fast that I worried about a ricer flyby, so I downshifted back into 4th and opened things up again to 130. After a brief flip of the hazards, I backed off and waited for him.

He passed me, but not aggressively, so I rode up next to him and gave a thumbs up and a smile. He did the same (I hope. I had my cab light on, but he didn't, coulda been something else hehe.), and we more or less split up from there.

This was my first race in this car that was not of extremely short duration, and it was quite fun.

The same guy went through my headlights yesterday. (as he crossed in front of me while I was stopped at the same intersectio where he previously nearly hit me)

As he passed, he literally glared at me, so I guess maybe that wasn't a thumbs up he gave the other night. Hell, that was the one thing that stopped me from thinking he was a total **** as a result of his driving habits. Now I feel even better about cleaning his clock.
