Ok, I screwed up. Dont ask why but I was taking off in 4th(really, dont ask) and the car started smoking and stunk really bad. It only happened for just a minute, and drove fine after. Think I caused any permanent damage? I was riding the clutch to get it to go, so I'm guessing I overheated it...but could it have been something else?

sounds like you just smoked your clutch a little. It shouldn't pose any long term harm. Slipping the clutch at launch when drag racing does the same thing. If you did this a lot you could glaze the clutch it, but I wouldn't worry this once. I had a similar thing happen messing with my roomate. I was pulling forward out of the garage real slow and he was in the garage behind my car so I revved the engine to startle him. I got a slight burned clutch smell because I was slipping it soo much, but no long term effects. IT doesn't smell very good!!

This same thing happened to me last weekend. I was pulling the car up on ramps in my garage, and I had to ride the clutch to move up slowly. When I parked it, I could smell something burning, I knew I heated up the clutch. What surprised me was how little I rode the clutch to make it hot enough to make that smell.
