That argument wouldn't fly in Texas. It doesn't matter if it can be removed or not. If they put their little meter on it and see that it's too dark you get a ticket. The cops know that it does not come from the factory that way since all of the 50 states have laws regulating window tint. But hey, you can always be our test case and let us know how successful you are.

Actually, I've never seen cooked windows on cars from the factory--only on trucks & vans. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some Federal rule allowing this that cuts thru any state laws because the truck windows can get really dark from the factory--darker than what would be allowed on car rear windows in some states... (Look at all '95+ Caravans)...

by law, the manufactures (including Ford) are limited to a tint on the upper portion of the windsheild only. the legal range of "color" and the requirements and restrictions are the same for ANY vehicle sold in the United States.
your arguement would be laughed at i fear because any cop would know it was fabricated!

This is what I was thinking. All factory tinted windows have a label on them saying they are factory tinted. Mine are getting done between 20-25% way way darker than law permits. I am goin to see if I can get a certified letter ( something on a ford letter head stating it a limited production vehicle has different tint, bla bla bla,) make it sound all lagit. then My sign guy is making me some decals for the inside on the removable plastic ( OIL CHANGE DECALES) decals. that says something like Bullitt limited edition factory tint. hope it works

I think it's ridiculous that the cops actually care how much one's windows are tinted. They should be concentrating more on 'real' crimes. JMHO

Hey Badkharma...I can tell you the reason why cops don't like dark tinting. I have been a cop for a long time and it basically boils down to having to walk up on a vehicle with dark windows and not being able to see any potential dangers to oneself. As an officer approaches your vehicle he is scanning everyone and everything inside to alert him to any possible furtive movements or dangers. He/She, like anyone, would like to go home that night to see momma and the kids again.

On an average year there are 150 cops killed in the U.S. A good many of them are killed during traffic stops. So in answer to your question, that is why they are worried about it.

I'm with you though, I like my windows to be dark tinted. But when I get pulled over I roll my windows down so the officer can see me easily. I don't want anything I do to be mistaken for a life threatening event. If I get pulled over at night, in addition to rolling down the window I:

Turn on the interior lights
Kill the motor
Put my hands on the steering wheel where he can see them.

Believe me the cop will take notice and it might go a long way to ease his mood. If he asks you why you did that. Tell him a good friend told you to.
