Robbed this pic off an eBay auction for a detailed shift knob; they painted the indentations black, except for the R which is obviously red. Kind of a neat detail.

I've done this on numerous bike parts. You simply fill the indentation with paint and once it's dry you wipe over the part with a little paint thinner to remove any excess you may have gotten outside the grooves.

I've got Ford touchup paint for the calipers for the red and some black leftover from a former vehicle (yes, I think I might do it). Otherwise I'm sure good old plastic model paint would work fine.

That is a neat idea since it just gets filled in with grime eventually.

That's similar to the 35th Anniversary model shift knob (below) only the "R" is painted red.

I did just did it and it looks great.Although the thinner does dull it.A dab of wenol's and it brightens back up.I used Testors red rouge 1103 for the R and 1147 GL black.Thank you for the tip.I would have never tought of it myself...

I did mine last June when I bought the car in DHG touch up paint and reverse in red, it looks great!

did mine with true blue touch up from ford and testors red gloss for the "R"...looks real good...i'd post a pic but for some reason it keeps telling me that the server is not availiable...will post a pic when I figure it out. also "rattle caned" just a touch of clear over the grooves to keep the grime out and so the color would stay longer

Don't know.. a red "R" is a little to ricer for me :-B Might have to go with the DHG idea.

I used a fine brush.Also put clear over it.Put two coats on it too.Looks just like the pic.Good luck..

Did mine tonight. Turns out my black was dried up so I went with True Blue for the black portion and the caliper touchup paint for the R.
