Detailing the knob.

Robbed this pic off an eBay auction for a detailed shift knob; they painted the indentations black, except for the R which is obviously red. Kind of a neat detail.

I've done this on numerous bike parts. You simply fill the indentation with paint and once it's dry you wipe over the part with a little paint thinner to remove any excess you may have gotten outside the grooves.

Just because you have a cool looking knob does not mean I want to see a picture of it. This is a public forum ya know.

enough with the knob. You want to go blind?
Nothing Lasik can't cure. Then you'll be able to see what you're polishing.

I'm confused when you guys talk about detailing the shift knob. Do some of the knobs not have the numbers painted in black or do you consider painting the R red qualify as detailing. The numbers on my knob are already black.

Is the knob coated in clear from the factory? Somehow I managed to put a small scratch on it and wanted to rub it out.
The '01's were not painted but some have added color with paint or a Sharpie.

To enjoy polishing my knob even more I set on my left hand (normally use my right hand)until it falls sleep, then rub away feels like a stranger

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As spring come along and the weather warms, more and more Bullittheads will be detailing their knobs on a more frequent basis.

But I can't quite understand the really strange look I just got from my wife when I told her, "Honey, I'm gonna go detail my knob!"
Get her involved. Ask her to detail your knob for you!
Jimbo,

If I were you, I would try the Jimmy Ray procedure. This should work perfect for you.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Detailing the knob is a great thing for the young or old.
Bullitt Nationals coming up. All the more reason for polishing the knob.

Any special tips Chuck?
You're right Greg. Five days before I leave so I better get started. Here's hoping I finish by the time registration starts next Sunday. Nothing beats a polished knob at Nats!
