I bought my car about 3 years ago, and this has been an ongoing issue. I was getting the fast right turn blinker signal which indicated my bulb was out. It's happened on 3 occasions now, and since the sockets were looking very brown and burned, I decided to replace the entire harness for the 4 bulb wiring assembly for the rear passenger side. I did this a couple of weeks ago after I had also pulled the fuse out for the radio because my Shaker 1000 had also started to act up again after I had disconnected the negative terminal on my battery to go on vacation for a month. Upon my return and reconnecting the neg terminal, the Shaker CD changer kept cycling through looking for a CD every time I'd open or shut the door. Apparently there is also no fix for this, so I bought another head unit.

Anyhow, for these past couple of weeks after replacing the wiring harness, the blinkers have been working perfectly. But today I installed a new Kenwood Double Din radio head unit I purchased from Crutchfield. I still haven't reconnected the amp and sufwoofer in the trunk. But tonight when I went out to get some food, my right turn blinker started acting up again and sure enough, when I got out of the car to check it, that one bulb wasn't blinking. Then when I got home and parked my car and checked the signal again, it was working normally this time.

Anybody ever experience this issue or have any idea what the hell is going on? Very frustrating, and I'm wondering if the guy that sold the car to me did so because of some deeper underlying electrical issue. Multiple bulbs and a brand new harness assembly for that passenger tail light, and it looks like it still hasn't been solved.

Well, I'd say it sounds like the problem is related to the sound system wiring. Are there any automotive electrical specialty shops near where you live? I suggest going to one. With their test equipment and wiring diagram sources, they could trace and fix the problem.

I'm curious to where you live. I have passed on cars for sale from the Midwest/deep south due to paranoia of all the cars that may have been under water at one time or another. Just sold a van (not a flood victim) due to ongoing electrical problems. I wish you the best, because electrical issues are the worst. Reach out to a local Mustang club, one that specializes or focuses on 5th Gen (S197) Stang's. You may find a sympathetic ear who can help you out. Good luck.

Well I was trying to avoid this because of the obvious expenses involved. Even for someone to look at it here in SoCal will probably cost me a hefty diagnostic fee. But that might end up being my only recourse. I went to the dealer and they told me that a lot of the autozone stores sell bad batches and I should just buy a set from them and replace all three bulbs. Their bulbs were relatively cheap or at least no more expensive than autozone,s, so I did that. Now we'll see.

I live in the L.A. area, and as far as I could tell from the carfax report when I bought it, my Stang has been a southwest U.S. car from the beginning. I'll keep your tip in mind regarding seeking suggestions from a local club. Thanks.

...SJB. If there is some water leaking thru the cow vents.. the Smart Junction Box makes some trouble. For the beginning you can check all the connectors.. perhaps the gremlin is there to find.

Thanks for the replies. I went to the Ford dealer soon after posting this thread in late November. They suggested I buy their bulbs and replace all 3 as a set. I did so, and have had no problems since. One of the mechanics mentioned something about resistances. I didn't ask him to elaborate. Apparently the Autozone Sylvania bulbs don't play well with our tail lights. At least that issue seems to have been resolved.
