It is very distinguishable GREAT JOB! I commend you for all the time and effort that went into recording this infamous “Death Rattle”. Now if we can only find a fix.

Thanks guys. Bullitt owner JohnHenry has a motivated team working on locating the source of the sound (A Ford Quality Care center in AZ). They're using an array of microphones, a laptop, and some cool software.

I don't have a Bullitt, but I have noticed a few other post-'99 GT owners lurking about here (like me). This sounds like the noise I am experiencing now. I thought piston slap, rather than pinging, as I only get what I think is that at WOT. I read with great interest what you folks find here. Thanks for the unintended help for your GT bretheren (sisteren??).

Regards,

Tony, if you are getting a similar sound at WOT, it may be preignition and/or detonation.

I have heard a death rattle and that is not one. That noise is from the upper part of motor possibly from timing chains.

Someone on this BBS had their timing chain tensioner(s) replaced: did not fix the problem.

JohnHenry (http://www.bullittclub.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=7176&forum=9&20) has a good Ford crew working on locating the sounds with an array of microphones.

rpittman- please describe what you think the "Death Rattle" sounds like. If you have the time and resources, please post a recording of the sound.
