I'm sure Ford has the VIN on the engine and transmissions i've read a couple post were the dealers have replaced the trans on a bullitt and an engine on a Cobra.
My question is,The new trans or crate engine that's getting installed does it have the correct VIN for the car it's going in?
The reason i'm asking is,having a numbers matching car is very important.

From what I've heard, once a major drivetrain piece leaves the vehicle, regardless of reason, the "matching numbers" exclusivity goes too, unless it's replaced with a piece that has the same casting, which is possible, but tough to do unless you search around. That's my understanding.

The only car that I know of to get its engine back are late model Corvettes. A temp motor would be installed, until the orig comes back. These were the motors that Mercruiser cast for GM.
