Looks like you got robbed, dude. Those things are rated at what, 405 HP? 351.3*1.15 = 404 HP. I think a 1000 shot of N20 will fix it. In fact, you run a 1000 shot, and I'll run my stock Bullitt at the track with stock tires. I think I'll blow right by you just a soon as your heads fly up through the hood right after you hit the bottle .

Also, perhaps change your handle from Vobra to Z0bra or perhaps Zorba or even Zora-bra .

351.3rwhp / 0.85 ~ 413.3bhp (assuming 15% driveline loss)

You can not multiply by 1.15 to go backwards, you need to divide by 0.85.

thank you Mark. That is exactly correct. My crank hp is 413.3 (351.3 / .85) and my crank tq is 414.6 (352.4 / .85) And considering the Vette has an IRS, it might be even more than 15%. So, no sir, I was absolutely not cheated.

Sorry DS, but I wouldn't need my Vette to hand you your arse at the drag strip; my Bullitt would do the job just fine, thank you  This is bonestock with nitto DR's as the only mod:

And btw, "JB VOBRA" came from the fact I owned a 460rwhp 98 Cobra. Here's a nice write-up on it before I sold it and bought the Z06:

JB, Nice numbers. Looks like the 405hp crank rating is a little understated, like other GM performance cars. Gosh, that Cobra was sweet, do you miss her? What mods do you have planned for the Vette?

thanks Mike.

No plans yet for the Vette. The other Z06 owners I've talked to all have picked up 10rwhp/10rwtq just from the (rather long) break-in. Most are not fully broken in for at least 8K-10K miles. I'm really shooting for a bonestock 11 second pass before I start modding (which will be minimal).

To tell you the truth, the only thing I miss about the Cobra, is the exhuast note. Nothing sounds quite as good as a 32V modular motor singing at 7000rpms. But besides that, the Vette is truly awesome in every other category. I can't wait to get out and autoX it.

I have always thought that Ford V8's had a better sound than the other makes. You can always tell a Ford, by the sound, even without looking.

Someone told me, years ago, that the reason Fords sound different is a longer stroke design as compared to GM or Chrysler. However, it all comes down to personal preference. I'm sure GM guys think Fords sound like *&%$.

Enjoy the Z06. If I had the cash, it would be in my garage too, next to the Bullitt.

I am glad to hear that you can still pick up an extra 10 horses with break-in. At first I was dissappointed with the numbers because GM is usually VERY conservative with the published rate. I have heard of many TA's that end up with nearly 300 at the rear wheels while stock. Obviously you still got the published power and then some and it appears that you will get even more. In that case, I am not at all dissappointed. It sounds like you have two excellent cars and I am VERY jealous.

BTW, sweet Cobra.

I thought that the bad math (404 < 405), using the words "robbed" and "dude", the 1000 HP shot of N20 and smiley faces would give a clue that I was teasing you. Just a friendly jab. Sorry if it offended you.

I surmised Vobra was derived from Viper and Cobra. The Zora suggestion was from where the Z06 got its name: http://www.lexington-on-line.com/crv.zora.html .

I like the C5. I owned a '99 coupe, and am looking for a used one as a hobby car to build. My main test vehicle for my driving simulator is a C5-R. See http://www.brightland.com/C5R/C5R_TestRender.htm .

Regarding racing, I was not aware that you owned a Bullitt. The best way to show the best driver is to both run the same car, and see who gets the better time (when possible, run equally prepped cars).

Yes, about a quart every 800-1200miles depending on how I drove it. It seemed as if it was getting better and I always hypothesized that it had to do with ring seating and synthetic oil from the factory but I remember that the PCV system was blamed. What about you? Yours use oil? JB?

It used 1.5 quarts in 1800 miles, or 1200 miles per quart. Sounds about the same as yours. Oil use was due to ring flutter at high RPM light load. Keep the R's out of that range under those conditions and little oil use. A buddy has a '98 C5 Indy Pace Car convertible (auto), and he hasn't had a single problem with the car. Automatics were (are) less prone to the problem due to load/RPM differences. Was your Y2K a 6 speed or auto?

no offense taken DS. I was merely giving you some background because I was afraid you thought I was some kind of GM owner coming over here pounding his chest. Thats not the case (which is exactly why I posted in the NADA bullitt section). I'm still a Ford owner.

I am aware of the oil consumption issue that plagued the 01 and earlier cars. I've got around 965 miles now and no consumption so far. I've been told the 02 models received new rings to remedy the problem. In fact, maybe I read something about the PCV valve as well.

I'm certainly going to keep my eye on it.

I read in 2001 about the new ring design. Then I talked to a buddy who owns a Corvette shop, and he stated he still had customers with oil use. For 2002 they went to coated pistons. Sounds like its working well for you so far.

When I told my wife that I wanted to get a used C5 to fix up (and keep the Bullitt), she replied, "Honey you don't want a used car. Why not get a new one?".
However, a low mileage C5 for around $28K would be a good project car (pull the motor and build it the way I like it, don't worry about the warranty, etc.). The other motivating factor is I trust my Corvette mechanic more than the dealers (I wish he could do warranty work).

Enjoy the Z06. Keep us informed on how it runs. Did you order it or find one at a dealer?

no, I didn't order it. I had been working on this salesman at a local Chevy dealer for an 02. I hammered him for a couple of weeks regarding price and we finally arrived at an agreement. Low and behold he had an electron blue arriving on 1-30-02 as part of his regular allotment. BINGO, I bought it. It's a really nice color.
