Salutations,

Does anyone know for what "eBay" stands? I have written their corporate office to find out but never received any responses. It is obviously no big deal...I just wanted to know from where a word we all use so frequently came.

Happy Thursday!

I have heard the term "auction bay" used in the past as the place where they display some of the goods up for an auction (a real one, not an "e" one), but I can't seen to find a decent Auction Jargon website.

It was originally called "Excessive Pay", then shortened to "ePay", then revised to "eBay" because "Pay" scared people off.

KIDDING  (I really don't know)

As far as I know, it stands for "electronic bay" because it was founded in the San Francisco Bay area. I knew one of the original workers there, back when it was nothing, but he's too good for everyone now . At the time, I thought it stood for Monterey Bay, but now I think it's SF Bay. Anyhow, it's one of those two. Did you know, it was originally designed to trade Pezz dispensers?
