WOW! Am I 'stoked' (for all you 60's crowd), impressed, and pumped up!
To anyone that wonders about the power of the BullittClub.com, Ford (FCSD PVT Program Mgr) has contacted me directly based upon postings (UFO experience) on this site seeking more data/feedback. WOO HOO! Way to go BullittClub, way to go FORD!!!!!!!

well, like I said he asked for more details, which I forwarded (too long to post here, unless ya'll are interested). He responded back stating that he would contact me in a couple of days to let me know how they wanted to proceed, stating that with travel the way it is it may take a little longer...suggesting he's coming here?? don't know. So, stay tuned to the bat channel. I was just surprised that he contacted me out of the blue based on the earlier post, and asked for the dealer repair contacts. One can only hope Ford is trying anyway, but it's a good sign nonetheless.

come to think about it, now I wonder what it was about my posting that caught the attention of FORD in the first place and what made it significant enough to drive them to contact me?? HMMMMM. In his first letter though he was very apologetic regarding the problem...ever hopeful...

Below is an answer 3230 got from Ford on the porblem. They believe it is due t a wire rubbing on a bracket in the left rear of the engine bay. The bracket is unique to the Bullitt (lucky us!) . There's a pic also that I'll get up when I get it saved properly.

Special Service Message:

Some 2001 Mustang Bullitt may exhibit a hesitation or stumble over bumps
condition. This condition may be followed by the theft light flashing for
a
period of time, and diagnostic trouble codes (dtc's) C1284, U1147, U1262
may also be present. When diagnosing you may find no communication with
the
PCM. This condition may be caused by the DPFE wiring chaffing against the
DPFE bracket shorting out VREF. Repair the wiring and re-route the DPFE
wiring to run over the accelerator cable to prevent this condition from
reoccurring.

FCSD PVT Program Manager, Mustang

good job #3230 & Cam!!!
apparently Ford does care despite what some may say! (of course, sometimes they seem to "care" on kind of a "hit or miss" basis!)

As I wrote in another post, I've worked for Ford for 29 years, FORD cares!!! Some ignorant lazy dealerships give us a bad name. Replacing Millions of dollars worth of Wilderness tires shows we care. The tires were not Fords fault. Firestone is soley responsible. Ford now employs a program called Consumer driven Six Sigma. This means our ultimate goal is to become world class like Japan. It's not easy, but damnit were trying!

I have had the same issue with my car. Buck/jerk concern over bumps. I have traced the concern to the dpfe harness as well. I verified the concern was present while performing wiggle test on the dpfe circuit with the sensor disconnected, but have not found a chaffing concern yet, I will take a closer look at that bracket tomorrow. The concern was only present one time and now I cannot duplicate it. I also work for a FCSD activity and commend the Plant Vehicle Team on a job well done. FORD DOES CARE!!

We're having problems posting the pictures.
On the rear left side of the engine there is a metal bracket that angles up toward the front. The wire routes over the top and rubs on the left side of the bracket. The fix is to reroute the wire along side the throttle cable. Or, you can tape it or protect it with a plastic loom. This condition is only on the Bullitt. Also, not all the cars are like this. At the MCA I did a spot check and 8 out of 10 cars were like mine. Scott Hoag said the fix is actually how it should have been routed anyway...so it seems a lot of them were misrouted. Anyway...if this doesn't help you find it, drop me an email and I'll forward the picture to whoever wants to see it until the moderator's can get the picture posted.

I have the pic but the old man can't seem to find the wire or the medal bracket. So I am going to print out a copy for him to take out to the garage so he doesn't have to keep running in and out of the house to look at the picture! I can also e-mail the pic to anyone that needs it....

In the lower left corner you see a metal bracket angling upwards holding the DPFE assembly. The DPFE wire comes down from the top, across the bracket, and gets chaffed on the sharp left hand edge of the bracket. Eventually the wire gets cut and shorts out. Mine experienced intermittent problems whenever I hit a bump...as the wire would bounce up & down and make contact. Place a wire loom around the wire, tape it, or take it to Ford...the fix is to give you a new harness (if it's been compromised) and to re-route it on the right side of the bracket along side the throttle cable. This assembly is on the left rear side of the engine close to the firewall. The angle of the picture is if you had the hood off and were standing along side the driver side mirror looking at the back end of the block looking down at the left bank. This condition ONLY exists on the Bullitt.
Thanks for the assist on the picture Bob!

Vicki...don't laugh at your hubby now...when Mark @ Ford first sent me the picture I ran out to the parking lot @ work thinking I could find it...I couldn't...had to run back, print a picture, and run back out...still took me awhile to figure out the angle of the picture and locate the booger. But, thanks to Mark @ Ford for his dilegence I no longer have that UFO hovering over me. Hopefully this will prevent anyone else from encountering my UFO...that is, if you happen to be a Bullitt owner smart enough to be a member of the Bullittclub!!!!! Problem first posted on this site...picked up by Ford off this site, and Ford special svc message posted on this site probably before it even was broadcast to the dealers. I love this site!!

Thanks for the tip on this, 3230!

I just re-did mine so it would run along the throttle cable.

The funny thing is, someone had stuck a small piece of black textured tape right where the wire was touching the bracket.

Someone at Ford was already expecting problems with the routing?

Scott D.

Edit: Here's a pic of Bullitt3230's cable. I met him at a Mustang show today.

I happend across this post this morning and so I checked the routing of my wire and sure enough it was laying directly on the sharp edge of that bracket. There was only minor damage to the outer jacket so I taped it up and rerouted. No doubt about it, only a matter of time before I too would have had problems. Thanks BullitClub and BullitHeads!!!!

Thanks for the pics & posts everyone. I'll be checking/fixing this one tonight right after cruising the forums. Great stuff!

UPDATE 10-16-2001: Mine was pinned hard against the bracket, without this post, it would have cut the wires for sure. Thanks again.

This is just an example of the power of the consumer and how web sites like this help to point out quality/construction issues. With a working relationship and the power of documentation and numbers to point out a specific issue, we really can accomplish a lot. Not that I have rose colored glasses, or believe we can always get something done, but it shows how a group of people and a web site like this can gain credibility. This would never have gotten this far if it weren't for this web site and if Ford wasn't monitoring it like it does. I think that says a lot.

Therewas a feller at BON that was having "UFO" problems and he came over to Bulittclub and got this post and printed out the pic and instructions on the DPFE wiring problem and took it to his Ford dealer to show them what the problem possibly could be. And guess what!? It was the problem as he pointed out to them from this topic post! Good job 01GTCOUPE and BULLITT3230!

here is the link at BON: http://www.blueovalnews.com/ubb/ubbhtml/Forum74/HTML/000778.html

The picture was provided to me by Mark Wilson
Ford PVT mgr after they worked the issue and ascertained what the problem was. He sent it to me as a reference so that I could check my car and validate whether I had the condition...I did. If you look at the close-up picture of my car (with my finger) you can clearly see the split/bare wire.
