Today at work (Cleveland Alluminum Casting Plant) Ford told us that our alluminum plant would be phased out by the end of next year. We make the 2.3L Alluminum block, and it cost to much for us to manufacture it. They will instead, buy it from Nemac New Mexico from people who will make it for a lot less money. Big buisiness in our great country is all about the almighty dollar. The rich get richer. People buying these damn imported cars sure don't help us either, 90% of the cost for these ricers go out of the country. I'm upset right now, I really like my job at the alluminum plant. Oh well, I guess I'll go help build the 3L Duratec now. I know thats a good one. Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders, but mosty thanks everyone for buying a Ford!! By the way, the Focus is selling all around the globe, the F series pickups are the best selling pickups in the world, and the Mustang....what can I say.

Hope you have better luck in your next job XTC. What really ticks me is the big wheels always get their big bonus no matter what. Another thing...when you stop and think, who are all these folks who by the $50,000 and up sports/luxuo cars? When you read Motor Trend, most of these type cars, and the market is full of them, are all in that range,

They are driving our manufacturing ability right out of the country. We are losing our capacity to make anything!

Good luck on the transfer... keep the faith!

I'm sorry to hear it XTC. I hope all works out for you, I really do. What I have learned in the Financial world is that sympathy and family have no room for numbers on the debits/credits worksheet for bean-counters. It's all about profit. You would think a little profit and family values would mix in nicely, but greed doesn't allow for that recipe. I wish you luck, and yes, the 3.0 Duratec is a Damn good motor!

Here in California, the dot com world is crashing all around as well. I have a few friends that are looking for work now. Hopefully it turns around again. with any luck the quality from the Mexico plant will be bad enough they will bring it back.

Take care and sorry to hear about this ;-(.

Hey man,
Sorry to hear that Cleveland is shutting down, hope you find something soon. Until we all unite and buy American, it isn't going to change, at least that's what I try to do at home, for the future of my kids and as a tradition for them to follow, America has the best products out there, we got to stop spending on imported products, when we do that, the economy will be pushed to improve.

Thanks everyone. I should be fine. I already heard Engine Plant# 1 will get a new engine to assemble in 2003. Suddenly things are not quite so grim. It's funny how much easier it is when people care.

They're laying off workers at the Wixom Michigan plant that assembles Lincoln Town cars and Continentals 'cause they're discontinuing the Continental. When some one suggested they build the Thunderbird there Ford's reply was they thought of that but want to keep it an exclusive vehicle. That makes sense right? They've got a hit vehicle. Why make as many as you can sell?

This way they can keep the price of the car up for a larger profit margin.

What's wrong with keeping a car exclusive? Many people on this site bought a car because it's exclusive. And if there's anything Ford needs now, it's profit! They lost 7 billion dollars on Firestone, and their restructuring plan.

You have to make cuts when you lose money. Otherwise, you end up like Enron, with the entire company defunct.
